I he successful operation of prohibition has also caused many thoughtful men in kdgofield county to changa their views on this great question. ^\\ e, the people of Kdgelicld, are not. directly conrvn>?d about the success or failure of prohibition in Maine or Kansas, but about its success hero at our very doors. If it has decreased the consumption of intoxicants, and practically stopped their sale, have the moral counige to say so.? Kdgeliold Advertiser. The above is alright and correct except that wo never were "a former dispensary advocate." The practical "working of prohibition for Newberry is better than barrooms or dispensary and we do not care to change. Whether it would be well to force prohibibitiou on the entire Slate or not wo a re not so sure. IT the dispensary could be opera ted as a dispensary for the purpose of restricting and controlling the sale and consumption of whiskey it might be a good system but when it is run for the money that may bo made it is all "wrong. The human race as at present constituted is going to have some sort of stimulant and when the use of whiskey is prohibited it might result in the adoption and use of soinelhinu far worse. I 'itt so far as Xewherry count v is concerned we believe every one is satisfied with the result of prohihit ion. We notice that in Spartanburg county the cotton mills of that county have decided to shut down. The information given out at a meeting held on Saturday, is lhal they will accept no lurther orders for cloth at present prices and I hat they will shut down their mills indT-finitely. not later than July 1. 1 DOS. This affects the thirty-seven milb in Spartanburg county alone, represents /Vi.OSl) spindles and 0S1!) operators. We are glad lo stale that the mills in Newberry are not affected and so far as is known nt present thvv will not shut down except for tin usual vacation which is given durinjj the summer.
