ITo went on to declare that the great work that Major Sloan had done as professor would live for irenerations and that the Cniversiiy of South Carolina was glad to have had such a noble man as its bead for these many years. (Major Sloan was deeply touched and thanked the hoard for its kind j expressions. Later on a committee <' was appointed to prepare resolutions on the retirement of President Sloan. This committee will consist of Messrs. Thomas -M. Raysor, ]?. P. ITamer, Jr., and C. E. Spencer. As Major Sloan's recognition from the Carnegie endowment is to begin whenever he retires from the presidency, he has asked to be relieved as Boon after commencement as possible.
