Constable WMiams' Work.
The reports of Mr.i T. G. Williams,
the county constable apopinited by
Governor Ainsel to enforce ...the -dis
pensary law in Newberrys cototy,
show..that this officer has beenrmery
active in discharging the -dutiles of
his position. Mr. Williams': went to
work on the 11th d*r of* last April,
and the suimmary of his work ishown
below embraces the period from the

During that time Mr. Williams

liquors which were destroyed as re
guired by the, law. duly one suit was
brought against him for return of

Constable Williams has on hand at
present three cases for trial at the

ver from last year.
Mr. Williams 'thinks that there has
been a great improvement in the en

the past few months. Not near so
much whiskey was shipped in during
the holiday season as he expected
:here would be.

The Gymnasium. t
The efforts of Mr: H. T. Renwick, 3
and those ass.ociated wIth him, to
fffect the establishment of a gym- t
na-ium for the younr men of New- E
be:r. seem to b" meeting with mach
success. Already albout fifty young ti
men have enlist ed in the movement,
and many oth"_rs are considering the b
matter of their joining.
The purpc,e. as di'cussed among t
some of the members, is to organize 1
an as_,cciation, and to secure a de
si:abie place where a bowling alley,
a thorough gymnasium establish- t
men . shower bath, reading rooms.
etc., can be put in. This seems to us I
to be a worthy enterprise. one that t
should find favor with almost every
young man ia town. It will be a
place of pleasure for the young men
to spend their win-tr evenings, and
long summer afternoons, and at the t
same time will afford those who are
confined to the work of the school- I
room. offices and stores excellent op
16rtunities to. deveTop themselvesc
physically.
It is estimated that a m'embership
fee of $5.00, together with $1.00 per k
month as dues from each member,
will be sufficient to pay all the ex- I
penses of th~e association. 'This will t
be rather a small sum in compari- I
son to the many benefits to be de
rived.
