PLEA FOR A HOSPITAL.
My dear Journal:?
I am very sick?am beOter today,
but not- ouI of the woods by a long
shot. .[ have every possible attention
from physicians and nurses. But
I am afraid there is some other fellow
who is as sick as I am who has
not t,Jie attention I enjoy. .So my
mind turns towards that hospital we
talked about last summer. That would
make his chance and mine equal.
Can we not begin that, "really
needed work / Could not our churches
receive olteriiigs for it next Sunday
alter urging liberal response by
our members! There is one who canmil
be in I lie Sanctuary, but whose
check will I?. if his head is hot.

The above appeared in the Greenwood
papers last week. It is e(|ually
applicable lo Newberry. Kxcept in
Newberry since the "still born" incident
we ihave not even heard a noise
that sounds like a hospital. Of
course we have all the secret organizations
mentioned by Dr. Wilson
and I hey are all doing* good and we
believe would take up the hospital
mailer but il has been taken chargo
of by a committee from I lie chamber
of commerce. Maybe I he movement
will spring in I o new life with tire

Newberry could and should haw a
hospital if all would only resolve to

We find that a very larire proportion
of our subscribers owe from one
to several years for The Herald and
News. We are sending statements lo

we cannot understand why you will
put it off. We believe you intend to
pay us. la our long experience we

Just now we need money and treed
it to meet our obligations and we |
intend this to be an earnest appeal
to those who have read The Herald I

As before stated those out-of-the- !
county subscribers who pay no heed !
to our requests and who are more
than a year in arrears will receive no

issue. We have been long suffering
and patient and no response to our
requests will be evidence that you do
not care for the paper or appreciate
its visits.
We would like to continue our
visits but we must have some substantial
evidence of your appreciation.
Kindly let us hear from you and
thus make glad our heart and we will
forthwith keep tbe currency in circulatin

one who holds our obligation.
We hope every one of our renders

TWO TRAINS OFF.
Changes On the 'Southern to Go Into
Effect January 5?Nos. 12 and
19 Disoountinued.
The Southern railway has announc
ed (dial on Sunday, J'anuary 5, it wil
lake two passenger trains off the Co
lumbia and Greenville division. Thi
Southern states that' when these
trains wore put on it was only as ai
experiment, -and it has been fount
that they have not paid expenses. Tin
trains to be taken off are No. 12
which now passes Newberry at 10.3(
in the morning, going towards Co
lumbia, and No. .19, which passe;
Newbery at' 1.25 in the afternoon
going towards Greenville.
Slight Changes will be made in the
schedules ol' the oilier trains, thougli
the definite schedules of these trains
have not yet been issued. It is undersl'ood
that (he afternoon train
which now reaches Newberry at .3.11
will roach Newberry about an hom
earlier, and that the niglrl train going
towards Columbia will ;ilso roach
Newberry aboul ;m hour earlier.
THE WEEK OF PRAYER.
It Will Be Observed by the Newberry
Churches, Beginning With Sunday,
January 5.
The custom of having a week of
prayer, now in practice in all Christian
lands, will 'be observed in the
churches of Newberry in the following
order:
On Sunday, January 5, 100S, the

obeying the following order: Baptist
church Monday night, Lutheran

In Memoriam.
Little Johnnie Farle, the only son
of Mr. and Mrs. J. II. Stockman, of
Liltle Mountain, S. C., was born July
10, 1!)()-), and died October 17, 1007,
Little Farle was just at that age lo
make him dear to iiis parents and sisleis.
But. God loved him best; His
will be done, not ours. Farle leaves
to mourn a fa I her, mother and five
sisters. He also leaves a (win sislor,
