Smith as well as to the letter from the president of the Farmers' Union of South Carolina, urging the farmers to hold their cotton until the price shall go up. We hope the farmers will heed the suggestion and advice of these two organizations. As we have endeavored lo emphasize from time to time for the past few weeks, the farmers themselves hold the key to the situation, and it is up to them to say whether or not the moneyed men, who speculate and gamble in the staple crop of (lie farmers, shal' win this fight. We have tried to emphasize that the law of supply and demand has absolutely nothing to do with the present decline in the prici of cotton. Spinners have sold tlicit product on the basis of fifteen cent..' cotton this fall, and the price is ob ligod to go up. What we desire to sec is that ii shall advance before the cotton is oul of the hands of the producers, and the man who really needs the benefit of this advance in price. Tf all oi the cotton producers in the cotton licit would hold from the market every bale of cotton for the next ten days or two weeks, there will be no doubt that the price would advance at least to thirteen cents per pound, We are satisfied that the merchants and the banks will lend all the assistance they can to the farmer in this contest, and we sincerely hope Ilia! he will realize the opportunity, whieli is his in litis crisis. We understand that the Standard Warehouse charges 10 cents a bah for storing cnlIon at flreengood and 20 cents at Newberry.
