This he did without any praise as to your deeds f valor and worth, because, in his { odest way, it was but his intention to pen but a plain, true historic sketch. nd time, the optent changer of all things, has left it so, that he sends it4 o you, through me-his son- and I dearly appreciate the opportunity. I deem this to be a great and singular honor, as I am, perhaps, the only son f one of your old comrades who has ever been .asked, to either read or peak to you. 4 Many are the times, that in my ear ly life I have sat and listened to him as he would relate, of your many dar ing deeds of bravery during that cruel war, and I can but say to you1, that never, so long as he lived, heard him say aught but the kindest of every omrade in Company "G". He al ways said to me, "They are but hon est, true and brave men,- wherever found, and it is the purpose of my ife, that you honor and respect them4 ll your life." "These men," he said, "went in a great part to make up the flower of Lee's grand army." I desire to relate one incident that ccurred, when I decided to move 4 down into Lexington county to begin< y life's work in the practice of med cine. I relate this, because it brings to memory one of your number, who, last year, passed over the river and 4 as called to his reward.
