was probably not read by many, it
may be well now to give n condensed
statement of our affairs.
The origin of the enterprise was

A board of trustees was organized,
a charter obtained, and the enterprise
vigorously and successfully pushed

for alleged commissions due him
claiming that he was entitled to

the association. TTe got an injunction
against 'Sir. Peter Rouss, ' son,
heir, and executor of the estate, fork
bidding him to pay any part of the
forty thousand dollars ($40,000)
balance of the Rouss subscription.
After waiting a long time on "the
law's delays" the case was tried before
a Brooklyn judge, and a Brooklyn
jury, and a verdict for some $10,000
gi\en TTnderwood. Our counsel
took appeal and after considerable
delay the Appellate Court reversed
the lower court, and decided every
point in our favor. Six months further
delay \v\as had by the pretence
A <of the other side that they would
ijJP take the case to the Supreme Court
of the United States, 'but finally the
case was thrown out of court, the
I costs put upon the other side, and
the injunction against the Ron ss cstate
dissolved. As soon as this was
done Mr. Peter liouss wrote that he
would pay balance due from the estate
so soon as we gave him proof
that we had cash in hand to meet the
considerations of his father's gift.
Accordingly we Collected
Rcriptions we had and sent him the
I certificate of our bank that we had
the money to our credit. }lr. Peter
liouss very promptly paid the $10.000
balance due on his father's subscript
ion, so that our efficient treasurer.
.Judge (ieo. L. Christian, was able
to report that he had to his credit in
bank two hundred thousand, one hundred
and thirty-three dollars and
eighty-five cents ($,200.i:i:i.R.~).)
It ought to be said that our counsel.
