The heat during t-he past several daNs has been excessive and oppres sive, and has eaused considerable suf f'ering. Thle work of excavating, prepara tory to laying the foundations for the new First Baptist chirch, has about been, completed, and the laying of brick fins begun. Work on the new count -house is progressing rapidly, and the building is assuming handsome proportions. Mrs. T. M. Neel and little daughter left this week for Nashville, Tenn., where they will visit relatives. Mrs. R. G. Spe:arman and daughter, -of Asbama, are visiting relatives in Heena. Miss Caughman, who has been visiting the Misses Martin, has re turned to her home in Cdlumbia. Mr. R. C. Bruce spent a few days in Honft Path this week. Yiiss Carrie Jones will leave this ureek for Hendersonville, N. C. Mis F orence Bowman and WMie Hndiey are visiting friends in Miss Edith May Camp, of Frank n, Va., is th'e guest of Miss Carrie Mr. C. M. Sr4th, of Kio ards, was in the city on Wednesday. Mrs. J. A. Mr. William H. Hunter fell from a step la.dde.r in the Observer office on Wenesdaiy morning, and 'was pain ful injured, hurting his back, end probably fracturing one .of the bones very wel yesterday, and it was not thoud't his injuries would keep him Vin bed for 'any great length of time. Mr. Hunter had gone up on the step ldder to reach a shafting in the Ob erver office, and the 'ldder slipped, causing him 'to fall. His many friends hope that has recovery will be speedy.
