CONFESSED THBORIME.,
Mr. P. N.' Boozer's Barn and Mules
isurned-'Iho Torch Set by Lewis
Burton.
1lie buringi of the barn of Mr.
Piess N. 1oCzer in No. 7 Townshii:
on SAturtday mor'ning, 'was a most out
rageous and fiendishlieL There seemub
to he little doubt that it was ineen
diary. In fact Louis 3urton, a negro
who lives'on \lr. Coinelly's place ITI
the neighborhood and who has beem
firing the engine for Mr. Iloozer, has
confessed to the crime. H1e implicates
',rnest Burton and Cap or Levi Ebo,
two negroes who also live in the same
conmmunity. So tar as we have beet
able to learn, there was absolutely n<
motive ot cau1se for this fire except
tie desire on tle part of the negrr
and his allies, it' thev were his allies
to (1o some devillenllt.
Mr. Ioozer had a modern and up.
to-date barn and besides the loss of
his barn, ten mules, five two year ol
colts, onie saddle horse an( one horse
belonging to M'r. P'rive were cremate'
in the burning. building.
Mr. Boozer also lost from nine t<
ten bales of cotton in the seed ani
from nine hundred to one thousaild
bushels of cotton seed besides a larg<
quanity of fodder and hay. The tota
loss is in tle neighborhood of si.
diotsai(l dollars witi no insurance.
The three negroes named above are
now in jail. Sheriff Buford, as soor
as lie was phoned of the fire on Satur
day, left for Mr. Boozer's, Louis Bur
ton having made confession before th<
sheriff arrived. Naturally the coi
tmuity was very much aroused ani
the Ivelptation or deal summarily
Witi tie ineiiliaries was very great
but wise counsel prevailed and (lie neg.
ro s were hiu11 it to jail 1imm111olested.
Louis Burton was broglit on tp
town on SaturkIly and later ri.l'nest
1thrton an4id l.bho were put in jail. It
is salid that Loulis in Iis confessior
m1iade st,veral conflicting- statements.
