Mr. S. J. John has purchased from

Our friend, Claude S., says he iai
often heard of hard times and that
lie had been waiting to see him for
thirty-five years and did not have
that pleasure until now. But then you
know Cladue is a knocker and we
think lie broke his little hammer
handle when lie made this knock.
Your correspondent is instructed to
say to all parents that the free public
school in this district will open Thurs
day, November 1st, and not to send
in their children earlier.
We note the suggestion of the Ob
server that the old time red shirts at
tend the unveiling of the Hampton
monument. We want to heartily see
ond the motion and only regret that
the sugestion was not made earlier,
so the idea could have been carried
out. It would have added much to
the occosion. To hear "Hurrah for
Hampton" is to look for a red shirt.
It may be necessary one of these days
to have to wear them again. The
sight of a company of red shirts
would make our patriotism glow, and
make us feel as though we were once
more doing battle for our homes and
our state. What an inspiration it
would be.

a pleasant visit to Mrs. A. H. Kohn,

Mr. F. H. Thompson. of Columbia,
visited his father Sunday, returning
to Columbia on Monday.
Rev. D. P. Boyd and wife, of
Fountain Inn, have been visiting
Mrs. Boyd's brother, Mr. J. Y.
Thompson this week.
Mirs. F. E. Schiumper't has been on
a visit to relatives in Newberry.
Miss Estelle Coleman, of Aiken,
after' spending a week wvith Mi'ss
Kohin, returnemd to heir home Monday.

to be added to our industries. Messra
Langford and Quattlebaunm will open
a wagon'and-buggy repair shop. They
have leased th)e old r'oller mill build
ing. Mr. T. J. Bolin, of Orangebur'g,
will be superintendent.
