Mr. E. L. Leavell was shot and ki ed in the public road at Vaughnvi at about 7 o'clock on Tuesday evc ing by Mr., B. W. Goodwin.. A Goodwin came to Nowberr, on W< nesday morning and surrendered Sheriff Buford. The shooting oecnrred in the- pI lie road a very' short distance fr Mr. Goodwin's home. Mr. Leav was driving home and as lie pask Mr. Goodwin's house Mrs. Goodv stopped him. There were words 1 tween Mr. Leavell and Mrs. Goodw when Mr. Goodwin came up, and I shooting decurred. The only eye-witness was M Goodwin. She was sworn at the co tier's inquest, and her statement published, From what can be ga ered it seems that the trouble arose regard to the Vaughnville school. 'I board of trustees, of which Mr. L, veil was a member, had elected a lo teacher, and Mils. Goodwin had-sif ed a petition protesting against t' teacher taking c'ail0rge. It was to t: petition that Mrs. Goodwin refers her testimony. The Offtcial Result of the Vote .In Newberry County Declared Yes terday Mor.aing. The county democratic executive committee met in tihe court house yes terday nonming and declared the of ficial result of the election in New bIerry county. County Clhairmnhn Fred I.' Dominick presided. Sub-commit tees were appointed, whto tabulated the vote. Tihe official results are given elsewlhore in The Herald and News to-day. It was stated that Messrs. 1arhardt, diggins, Counts, Player, Burns, Hlend ersoln, Wright, Amick, Fellers, Jno. C. Wilson, for magistrate, Maybin and Wn. L. Kibler, liad not filed their pledges on the day' after the election, and their vote was not put in the of fleial returns. The law declares, how. ever, that wlien this occurs it shall not affect any other candidate. The only two iomnniated who diid not file their pledges are Messrs. John Henderson, magistrate No. 3. and Z. B. Wright, magistirate No. 4.
