The mail ervice on trains No. 21 1 and 22 on the C., N. & L. road between & Columbia and Laurens, for which the people till along the lin have been working, seems now to be assured. The train is now carying looked Huni'pouches, but it has been decided to put a messenger on these trains. The Columbia Record of Wednesday afternoon says: Mr. L. M. Therrell, tile superintend ent of railway mail service for this territory, and Mr.'J. A. Meets, the as sistant siperintendent, were in Colum bia yesterday in conference with Mr. W. G. ClAilds, president of the Co hunbia, Newberry and Laurens rail road, relative to the establishment of an additional mail service between Columbia and Laurens over this route, about which a good deal has been said recently. It was decided to put tile desired servi(e in operation with a messenger on trains No. 21 and No. 22, which is what was asked for by the people of Laurens and intermediate points. This mail will leave Laurens at 7 a. m., arriving- inl Columbia at 10.30 a. m., and returning will leave at 5.20 p. i., arriving in Laurens at 9 p. mi. It was not iln tile power of Mir Ther rell to grant compensation to the rail road for this service, but Mr. Childs will apply to the second assistant postmaster general, asking that com pensation he allowed. Excelsior July 26.-We have had a chance of rain in this section the past two or three weeks and low lands have been badly drowned. Mr. Odis Kibler of Newberyy has been visiting relatives in this section. Mr. George Richardson is spending Friday and Saturday of each week in Pomaria keeping order and quie tude in the town. Edward Lee, son of Mr. aild Mrs. John P. Kinard, was born February 5, 1873, and departed this life July 15, 1906, aged 33 years, 5 months and 10 days. Job says, ''Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble. ' This was certainly the life of poor Eddie. His whole life was full of af flietions.
