Orangebiurg on Monday afternoon between Jefferson M. Way and John 1). Palmner, and the latter was shot dead by the former. ant. Mr. Palmer was shot through the ep- head, the ball entering about. the eye, ie-and death ensued at once. The shooting oecurred in the store of Mr. Way, just across Market street from the postoffice. The report is that Palmer went to Way's store and had a talk. Later Palmer returned to the store and the report is that he opened fire on Way. The latter ran rue- behind his counter an( grabbed his lent pistol, which lie is said to have il and ways kept hung up there, and then 9th, he opened fire. Palmer's pistol is it. said to have been emptied when it was found lying beside his body on the store floor. Way is said to have sihot four times. At the second lost trial, about two or three years after the first trial, Way was acquitted.
