Reports from every section of the
county indicate that the roads are
in very bad condition, and in many
cases almost impassable. It is true
the weather has been had for somenc
time, but if the. roads had bcen
properly made ief re the had
weather bcgai thv \wo.ubl have
been in much better cdi tI
greatest troubls in geting d
roads is that at the time when they
ought to be put in condition to
withstand bad weather they are
usually in good condition and little
thought is given them until the bad
weather comes.
The best investment that New
berry county can make is to put
monev in macadam roads. If we
would start at the court house and
build a certain number of miles of
macadam roads in every direction
from the court house each year, we
'would soon have good roads
throughout the county, and the bur
den of paying for them would not
be felt and the returns would be
many times the cost.
Since the dispensary has been
voted out it is probable that a con
siderable increase in the tax levy
will be necessary to meet the cur
rent expenses of the county. The
county ought to be put on a sound
fnancial basis.
Congressman Lever is receiving
earnest support from South Caro
lina in his effort to secure a mail
service on the Columbia, Newberry
and Laurens road. The people all
along the line wvould be greatly
convenienced by the success of the
movement, and are wishing for it.
,an early success..
