AN ORDINANCE
State of South Carolina,
The Town of Newberry.
For the purpose of meeting in
part the current expenses of the
Town government of the Town of
Newberry, in the State of South
Carolina, for the fiscal year begin
ving-january ist, -196, and to meet
in part such other indebtedness of
said Town as may become due in
said fiscal year; Therefore, be it
.rdained by the Mayor and Alder
men of the Town of Newberry, in
said State, in council assembled and
by authority of the same:
Section r. That no person or
persons, firm, corporation or cor
porations, shall engage in, prose
cute or carry on any calling, trade,
:business, occupation or profession
hereinafter mentioned within the
corporate limits of said Town at
any time during said year after the
publication of this ordinance with
out having first paid to said Town
a license or privilege tax therefor

Section 3. That the Town Coun
cil of said Town hereby reserve
the right to refuse or revoke an3
license for any cause which ma'
seem to it just.
Section 4. That any person, firn
or corporation making any false o1
fraudulent return, shall upon con,
viction be punished as herein afte1
provided for the violation of thi.
ordinance or any part thereof.
Section 5. That whenever ir
this ordinance the term "dealer" i.
used the same shall include not onl
the principal, but in his, her o1
their absence shall include an3
agent, clerk or employee managing
the business respectively referre
to; and generally, where a licens<
is herein imposed upon any busines.

ducted by an agent, clerk or em
ployee, such agent, clerk or em
ployee shall be subject to the pen
alties imposed in this ordinance foi
its protection, should the said busi
ness be carried on without taking
out such license, in the.same man
ner as if he, she or they were th<
proprietor.or proprietors of sait
business.
Section 6. Any violation of thi.
ordinance or any part thereof shal
subject the offender or offenders
each to a fine not exceeding on<
hundred dollars or to imprisonmeni
with or without hard labor upon the
streets or other -public works od
said Town for a period not exceed
ing thirty days, at the discretion a'
the court.
Section 7. That any person 0:
persons, firm or corporation, or th<
agent, clerk or employee in charge
or managing the. same, who shal
engage in, prosecute or carry oi
any calling, trade, business, occupa
tion or profession upon which a li
cense or privilege tax may here
after be imposed by the Towr
Council of said Towvn, without hav
ing taken out a license therefor
sha, upon conviction, be each fined
in a -sum not exceeding one hundred
dollars, or imprisonment with 01
without hard labor upon the streets
or other public works of said Towr
for a period not exceeding thirty
days, at the discretion of the court
Section. 8. That each day an:
person or persons, firm or corpora
tion shall violate this ordinance o1
any part theref, by reason of any
failure or refusal to take out an:
