Heribert a mee ing was.-held in the court house ye terday looking to forming a law ar or<der league in Newberry, the ma purpose of which is the suppression < blind tigers. Mr. R. T. C. Shackleford, after long illness, died at her home in New berry on Friday at i o'clock. Mrs Shackleford was a Miss Pope ani first married Mr. Richard Wickei She is survived by her husband, Mr W. M. A s to buy your 0 ore of Newi EUGENE S. WERTS Elected Clerk and Treasurer of City Council to Succeed Thos. 0. Stewart Resingned. At a meeting of the city council held yesterday morning Mr. Eugene: S. Werts was elected clerk and treas urer to succeed Mr. Thos 0. Stewart, resigned. There were five applicants for the position. 'Mr. Stewart resigns to take a po sition on the road to travel for an Atlanta house which deals in rubber hose. 'Mr. Werts served is county super intendent of education for two years and was last year a candidate for county treasurer. He is polite, courteous and obliging and naturally popular and will make an efficient officer. Survivor's Meeting. A meeting of survivor's of Co. G. 13th S. C. V. was held in Prosperity on Saturday, September 30. An organization of the sons and daughters of Co. G. was effected by electing the following officers: E. W. Werts, president; T. B. Hawkins, vice president; T. J. Wilson, secretray. A committee of three was appointed on membership. Addresses were made by Messrs. Lumpkin and Wes ton of Columbia. A basket picnic was given and much enjoyed in the grove near the church.
