'-aving r: sLtps ;ince leaving Newberry. except to have our car shifted from one train to anothei-. \We have been running very nearly on tinv-. except from Seneca to Atlanta. reaching Atlanta about one hour late. which gave our people no opportun ity even to take in the beauties of the Union station in that city, ex cept in a bird's eye view from the car. I regret very much that I have been unable on account of this trip, to at tend the barbecue on Tuesday at Utopia and the one tomorrow at Spearman's Spring and the college re union at Little Mountain. and the numerous other barbecues which are scheduled for the month of August. where I would enjoy the good hash, for which the barbecue makers of Newberry county are famous. I wish, however. that some of them would come over to Atlanta and eat some of the barbecue pig and lamb, and some of the "Brunswick stew," which is furnished at Verner's place. Brunswick stew and the sauce he makes with it, I think, excels anything that even Jim Dunbar can make in that line. When in Atlanta some weeks agQ I arranged with him to furnish the Press party some of this barbecue m~eat and Brunswick stews and I am satisfied that the party enjoyed it very m.uch. The next stop from Atlanta was Chattanooga, but that being in the night. we saw nothing of the city. From Chattanooga. we ran to Lex ington. Ky.. from Lexington to Louis ville, and we are now between Louis v'ille and St. Louis. On this part of. the trip we are using the Southern railway, except from Chattanooga to Lexington, where we used the Queen & Crescent. Col. R. W. Hunt. the affable divis ion passenger agent of the Southern, who is known pleasantly to all the newspaper folks, and for that matter to nearly everyone else in South Carolina. came to Newberry to ar range transportation for us over the Southern going and returning, and gave us the pleasure of his company as far a Atlanta. The railroad peo ple have been exceedingly kind and courteous to our entire party. and have done everything they could to contribute to our pleasure and com fort. We have a good chef on the private car, who, by the way, is a South Carolina negro from Chester, and the porter and two waiters are also po lite, courteous and attentive. GENERAL NEWS NOTES.
