Some cheap political capital has been made in an effort to charge the law so as to have sessions of the legislature once in two years, in stead of the annual sessions as now. The Press and Banner has no spec ial zeal in the matter, but we think the sober sensible thing for the peo ple to do is to refuse to vote for any such propositions. If our legislature had been in ear nest in an effort to save money, they could have reduced the annual ses sions' of forty days to twenty days. Others have our permission to vote as they please but we will vote against biennial sessions. We would gladly vote to have the sessions reduced to twenty days. Abbeville Press and Banner. The Herald and News beleives it would be better to cut the length of the sessions. Before the adoption of the constitution of 1895 the leg islature rarely, if ever, remained in session longer than thirty days. It met the last of November and adjourned usually the day before Christmas. Annual sessions of thirty days and annual accountings would save more money and be better than biennial sessions with the pros pect of extraordinary sessions called by the governor. As a member of the legislature the editor of this paper voted to submit the question to the people because he believed a majority of the pe,ple of Newberry county wanted to vote on it, though person ally we do not believe it will accom plish the saving some people think. It was good campaign matter for the socalled economists. About the only benefit we can see in it is, un less extra sessions should be called, it will save changes in the lawv being so frequent. There are arguments to be presented on both sides of this phase of 'the question, however. The question is to be submitted to the people and whatever they say will satisfy,us. In Greenville county there was a very close race for supervisor in the second primary. Two men, J. WV. Walker and J. E. Speegle, were the K candidates. On the face of the re turns Walker had a small majority and was declared the nominee. Speegie entered a protest and a hear ing was ordered and the committee reversed its former ruling and de clared Speegle the nominee. This is an admission of the charge, says the Greenville News, that there was -fraud practiced in the primary in~ Greenville county. Something should be done to safe guard the primary. If it is not it will have to go, because the people do not approve of the practice of fraud in elections any more than in other transactions. Register and Vote. Our people, on account of the pri mary, have become too careless in the matter of voting in the general election. State Chairman Jones and County Chairman Cunningham have both called attention to this matter and we desire to emphasize the im portance of all democrats securing registration tickets and then voting in the general election. Next Monday is the last day on which to secure a registration certificate be fore the general election and all tificates should secure them at this time. f It is probable that the republicans will put out an electoral ticket and in many, if not all, the congressional districts there will be opposing can didates. Of course, there can be but ,*e result, and yet if the democrats are indifferent in the matter of vot ing, trouble might easily be caused in the contests which are to follow. The fights in the congressional districts are for the purpose of making con tests. Let all democrats secure their reg istration tickets and not fail to vote in the general election. thousand men have been killed, maim ed,.and seriously injured in the war between Russia and Japan, and that as many homes have cast in gloom and desolation. How many persons have been killed and maimed in the United States by railroad wrecks within the last half 'year, making desolate our own homes? Olivet church,' therefore be it, Resolved i, That while greatly deploring her loss, we will endeavor to profit by the bright Christian ex ample left us in the sweet life led by our dear friend and we shall ever cherish in memory the beautiful qual ities that were the most prominent characteristics of her daily life, pa tience and warm sympathy for others. Resolved 2, That in her death, her husband has lost a true and devoted wife and we lost a kind friend and faithful co-worker. Resolved 3, That we, as God's children, extend to the bereaved hus band our heartfelt sympathy and commend him to God who will merci fully and lovingly sustain him. It has been claimed _by some that you cannot have one prie in Newberry, that the people have been educated in late years to expect you to take less than you ask them at first; in other words, if you can afford to sell a shoe, or ahat, or apair of pants at $2.00 cash, mark them $2.50, then if your customer asks you to charge them t $2.50, but if you can't get $2.50 or $25, take $2.00. This is not our way, d looking at it' from our standpoint it would not be right, as we believe we owe it to our customers and to the trade to mark all our goods just as low as we can sell them and treat all alike. Let the change of a p rice be an excep ton ther tnaue, and by getting the volume of business, making a small profit on each one, win the confidence of the trade and hold it for yrears.
