Southern Bell Telephone & Teclc graph Co., R. 0. Spearmian, Man FIRE AT JALAPA. Mr. S. B. Aull Loses His Barn, Eight Mule, and 500 Bushels of Corn--Believed To Be Work of Incendiary. Mr. S. B. Aull, of Jalapa, sus tained a heavy loss on Monday night by fire which he believes to have been of incendiary origin. His barn, with eight mules and I about five hundred bushels of corn, was burned. The total loss is about $1,500 Th .was no in surance. The fire was discovered a few minutes before 9 o'clock. Mr. Aull had just gone into his house, having returned from his store across the road. when he heard the aiarm given by some one outside. The large barn was situated about a hundred yards from the dwelling. There were fifte:n hor.es and mules in the building. The fire had gained such headway at the time the alarm was given that it was possible to save only seven of .hese and the re maining eight, which were in the rear end of the building, were burn ed to death. There were about six hundred bushels of corn stored in the barn and about a sixth of this was ave(l. VARIOUS AND ALL ABOUT. FULMER GOES TO COLUMBIA t, Has Been With the Office Ten Years Others Who Have Been on The Herald and News for Many Years. Mr. W. A. Pultner left last week with his family for Columbia, where lhe a-cepts a position with a print ing office in that city, the Colum bia Record. Mr. Fulmer had been with The Herald and News almost t coniitinuously for ten years, in fact we had come to look upon him as a fixture wita the paper, but he ac cepts other work in the hope of bet tering his condition, and we trust I lie will not be disappointed. He is capable and ellicient and a good printer. A great many good printers, who received their train ing in The Herald and News office. have gone to the larger cities The force is constantly changing and The Herald and News is always glad to .eee the boys improve their condition. Mr. Jno. W. Earhardt has been with the paper a good many years. Mr. H1. M. Barger has been with the paper possibly longer than any other printer in town, though he has gone ot onec or twice to seek other work.
