which many kinds are used In China.
Japan and Burma. Eastern drums dif
fer from those of Europe in having
their heads nailed on, not kept mova
ble, aa ours are for tuning purposes.
The body Is usually made of sandal
wood, cedar or mulberry wood or else
of baked clay.

Performing Matches.
Get a basin of water and arrange a
number of matches on the surface in
the form of a star. When the matches
are all together in the eenter of the
basin rake a piece of soap and touch

matches will make for the sides of the
basin, repelled to all appearance by the
soap. Lay down the soap and touch
the water with a piece of sugar. Im
mediately the matches will return to
the center.
A Simple Microscope.
