While the clays that t^0Ne&~i
vb.Bt the geologists call th^Mor<son
shale were being laid,down
n water in soiithe^n Colorado,
here lived in that region tmany
remarkable reptiles of huge size
ind great variety. According to
ihe United States Geological Surrey,
Department of the Interior,
many of these animals weije mir2d
in the soft clay of which the
Morrison formation largely consists,
and their bones, which are
in places abundant, are noW col^s
lected and studied by geologists.
Some of these creatures^ such
is one known as the Bronjtpsaurus,
were sixtv feet long. Many
of them had remarkably Ismail
beads, notably the Stegosiaurus,
whose diminutive brain suggests
[hat it must have been vert stupid.
This animal was unfoubt
ly very clumsy also, but it^ hugesize
and its protective armor aided
in its preservation.
