Cotton Chopper Invented.
Paul W. Mack of Greensboro
has secured a patent on a cotton
chopper on his invention. He
got his model back from Wash
ington last week, following its
utilization in the capital for
registration of his patent and
exhibited it. Although some
what the worst for wear in the
hands of the officials in Wash
ington, the model was in con
ditions which permitted ?
survey of it and an estimate o
its possibilities.
Mr. Mack says this is the firs
cotton chopper which is dravvr
by horses invented. Som<
choppers, hand operated, hav<
been put on the market, bu
thev are not in the same clasi
wite this he offers to the world
Me stated that whereas it pushei
a man to chop an acre ot cottoi
a day, the chopper he has mad<
can be made to do from six t(
10 acres. Furthermore its char
acter is duplicate, and it can b<
made to cultivate the cotton a:

Sam Dixon Killed.
O^ly monger details ore obtainable
at this time of the killing
of Sam Dixon on last Thurs- ^
day by Ed Campbell.
It is known that on last
Thursday these two voung men,
i while more or less under the
- influence of drink had a fight
; on the public highway in the
lower part fof the County.
- Campbell struck Dixon on the
i head with a heavy stick, knockf
ing him down. Dixon arose
and started across a field and
t Campbell moved on.
i Only two small boys saw the
i fight and nothing was thought
i of it until Sunday, when the
t continued absence of Dixon
? from his familiar haunts was
. noted. A search was made and
s he was found lying face down1
ward in the field he had started
2 to cross on Thursday. He had
) apparently died soon after fall
ing.
2 Campbell was arrested by
s Constable O L. Melton and
s lodged in jail.?Chesterfield
j Advertiser.
