Mr. W. J. B. Funderburk, who
H has been working at Petersburg,
Va. for several weeks, is at home
I for three or four days.
The Chesterfield county fair
begins at Chesterfield today,
and will last through Saturday.
Everything is in readiness, even
to the the show people. Dr. R.
L. McManus reports that the
town is full of them.
Brick are being laid down for
the erection of brick buildings
where the wood ones were
burned on Pearl street a few
days ago. Mr. J. B. Swanner of
Albemarle is here to secure the
contract to do the brick work.
Mr. W. T. McGuirthas resigned
his place as manager of the
Plummer Grocery, and has ac
cepted a position as salesman
with the Monroe Hardware Co.,
at Monroe. He will move his
family today or tomorrow.
rMrs. H. W. Crosswell came
up Friday to see her brother.
Mr. H. N. Askins, who has been
quite sick since Tuesday of last
week as a result of a fall from a
bale of cotton on the platform
here. His condition is thought
to be a little better now.
Mr. L. L. Parker states that he
had fresh strawberries, Irish
potatoes and mustard on the
first day of November, and then
declared that none of this was
paid on bad debts or subscription
but was grown in his
garden.
Work is being rushed on the
Journal building and if the
weather is favorable it is hoped
i that the damage may be repaired
I within two or three weeks and
!" ?that the paper will be back
a home agaip. This issue is being
b printed on our own press though
H it is standing in the bnrned
h Duuaing without any roof above
it. If it should rain, what would
we do?
W "How long shall we run it?"
u we asked Mr. ]. F. Watts as he
gave us a business local for The
I Journal one day last week.
[ "If it's like the one I put in
I about the cow, one week will
be long enough," he replied. "I
was about to write you to put
in one and tell the people I was
out of cows," he continued.
When you want to buy or sell
, anything, try our business local
column.

from Lanes Creek township to
Georgia about ten years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Baker who

Last Wednesday afternoon
Mr. R. K. Chisholm received a
message that his wife's sister,
^ Miss Maggie Foreman, was dying
at her hopie in Augusta, Ga.
Notwithstanding the fact that
he and Mrs. Chisholm had just
arrived by auto from their home
at Carthage, N. C., ajdistance of
120 miles, they started about 7
o'clock for Augusta by automobile.
By riding all night they
reached there about 7 o'clock
Thursday morning. Miss Foreman
died Wednesday afternoon,
and the body was buried in
Aiken county, S. C., on Thurs
day. She was known by a
number of people in this section
as she spent a few years
with her aunt, Miss Maggie
Roberson, several years ago. ]
