Hendrick, former Congressman from the First District of Kentucky, has an attribute common among the citizens of his own state?he greatly admires a good trotting horse. One fine spring morning he visited the driving track near the town where he resides, to spend a happv hour watching various owners and trainers exercising their stock. A tobacco raiser from the back part of the county swung down the home stretch behind a bony, awkward, skittish, weird looking animal. The sulky in which the farmer sat was the best that money could buy and as shiny as paint and varnish could make it; the harness was new, ornate and elaborate. He halted in front of the grand stand, where Colonel Hendrick sat. "Hey, John!" he called up. "WTiut do you think of the out nir "Fine, Jeff; fine!" staled Colonel Hendnck. "Perfectly splendid! I congratulate you. There's onlv one thing more needed to make it absolutely complete." "Whut's that?" demanded the surprised country man. "A hoss!" said the colonel. "Who was the first man, Bobby?" asked the teacher. "George Washington," ans wered the young American promptly. "Why, no, Bobby. You ought to know better than that. It was Adam." "Oh, well," said Bobby, determined to prove himself right T wasn't counting foreigners." Obituary Report, Mrs. R. M. Jenkins, Dudley. Reports of Committees. Closing Message. He was describing some of the patient's svmptons to a friend. "I take it, then, that she rattles a good deal when you run her." said the other man. "Rattles!" said the owner of the car. "She_ sounds like a skeleton having a congestive chill on a tin roof!" Winkleby gazed at the new triplets with fatherlv pride, but not a little apprehenson in his eye, nevertheless. "What are you thinking, dear?" asked Mrs. Winkleby, softly. "Nothing, dear, nothing," he said falteringlv, "only don't vou think that it. would be wiser for us hereafter to build up our little family on the installment plan?" ?Ex.
