UNION COUNTY NEWS
Monroe Journal.
Mr. Blair Secrest, who lives
four miles north of here, thinks
automobiles will bankrupt the
country before long. He says
that many good farmers, iust as
soon as they get a few hundred
dollars ahead, will invest it in an
automobile. Then the expense
starts, for it is costly to keep up
a machine. Mr. Secrest believes
in traveling the old way, and

bank for a rainy day.
Mr. Alfred Funderburk says
that many people are not observ^
ing the bird law at all, but are
already shooting partridges right
along. There is but thirty days
in which partridges may be killed
lawfully in this county. That
is between the fifteenth of December
and the fifteenth of January.
There is no way for the
law to be in forced except lor the
people who know ot its violation
to indict the ones who violate
it. Only that will stop the
violators.
The friends of Dr. Watt Ash
craft regret to learn that he will
probably lose a portion of the
first finger of his left hand as a
result of the wound he received
three weeks ago. The pain,
which was fearful for many
days, has subsided, but the end
of the finger has become dead
and no doubt will have to be
taken off. At one time Dr. Ashcraft
never slept for five days
and nights.
A seedy looking fellow, evidently
a tramp or a hobo, went

cotton was bringing. "Nineteen
cents," said Mr. T. W. Huey
"have you got any to sell?"
"No," said the man, "but at that
price I think Til steal a bale."
Mr. T. P. Dillon is looking
for the man, who two years ago,
approached him and said that he
wasn't going to support Wilson
because he caused the slump in
cotton! Mr. Dillon is wohdering
whether or not the man har
changed bis tune.
