THE PEOPLE WIN AGAIN
The United States senate
last week confirmed the
nomination of Louis D. Rrandeis
to fill the vacancy on the
supreme court bench, and thus
ended a very bitter fight. Pres
ident Wilson nominated this bril
liant Boston lawyer without consulting
with Wall street, and for
more than three months a determined
effort was made to pre
vent his confirmation by the
senate, meanwhile the president
stood firmly. Brandeis is not a
corporation lawyer, and he refuses
to become the tool of "big
business." His confirmation
brings new blood of the right
kind into the supreme court of
the land. He is the first Jew
who ever sat on the supreme
bench. Race prejudice had
something to do with the fight
against him, but the political
prejudice had far more.
The man's ability has not
been questioned. His legal talent
is acknowledged, and he
ranks as one of the foremost
lawyers of the country. His
confirmation is a victory for
Wilson, but a greater one for
the American people.

to sav of the'investigation of the
character of Brandeis:
"The most searching investigation
has been had and the
life of Louis D. Brandeis is now
an open book that all may lead,
and any one of us who is not a
fanatic or a jackass may sincerely
congratulate him for an admirable
character now lirmly
and indelibly established. Not
many men, Jew or Gentile,
couiu emerge irom tne ordeal
as triumphant as has Louis D.
Brandeis. Everything was scrutinized,
great and small. The (
most uncharitable suspicions 1
were advanced as charges, and
all sorts of insinuations were
made; but when an intelligent
and unprejuced mind passes on
them Brandeis stands acquit of
everything dishonorable or disbreditable."

For Sale
r
I 77 i-2 Acres o! Land, and Crop
* I now offer my farm, crop,
stock and farming: tools for
sale. I propose to sell what
I have at a sacrifice, and if
there is any one who wants
t a bargan, here is his chance. *
i I am not able to farm, neither
> is my family.
, This farm is 4 miles southeast
of Pageland in the
Evans mill section. There
is a good 5- room house, good
barn, good pasture, good
well water, one cropper
house, good young orchard,
i and a lot of saw timber.
Nearly enough timber to pay
for the place. Improvements
on the place are worth half I
what I ask for the land. '
1 Adjoining land without im.
provements can't be bought
for less than $30 to $40 an I
acre.
i This is fine land, and a
fine neighborhood. I am
making this sacrifice because
of my health.
Good school and churches
nearby.
^ I have a 2 horse farm
started nicely. I am crawlr
ing on my knees and doing
t, my best to keep it worked.
My crop is doing nicely.
Come and see the land and
the crop.
Don't miss this opportunity
if you want a splendid
farm at a very low figure.
Price of all $4,050.
Now let the man with
1 some cash come and get a
bargain.
