* . I. ^ _ __ __ The Pageland Journal Published Wednesday Mornings C. M. Tucker, Proprietor Subscription Price - - $1.00 Entered as second-class mail matter at the post otfice at Pageland, S. C., under Postal Act of March 3, 1879. Marcb 29, 1918 Ten cents spent for a good wire fly swatter is money well spent just now. The old left over flies, the ones that have made their winter homes in your house, are easily killed off now, but as the weather begins to warm up the breeding season begins and in a very short time swatting does little good. Go 1 after them with determination, and do it now. Then, of course, the premises must be kept scup ulously clean during the hot weather so that there will be no breeding places for the nasty ; little pests. There are still a few ; homes that have no screens, but it. J A. t SL1CCU& uiu uueaper man uotiors i bills. i m The time for the annual spring cleaning has co?ne and the Town authorities are to be J commended for their action in setting a day for the cleaning up 1 of all premises in town, and they 1 seem to be in earnest when they say they intend to see that the , matter is properly done. Everv citizen should co operate in this effort to remove all rubbish and filth from the Town. The time 1 is not next month nor next week, but tomorrow, Thursda3% < March 30th. Help to make the i Town cleaner, brighter, healthier and better bv doing your , part in the cleaning process. If you are inclined to be stubborn and feel that you don't care to be told what to do on your own premises, just remember that the Town can have the cleaning done in case you don't do it and make you pay for it. There has never been a better opportunity for the organization of a mutual tire insurance company in Chesterfield county than now, and in many other counties in South Carolina also. The in surance bill running the Southeastern Underwriters from the State has directed the attention of the people to the rates they have been paying. John L. Mc Laurin was asked $3.50 a $100 for insurance on warehoused cotton last year by the trust, and 1 he went out of the State and had 1 it insured for $1.58 a $100. A factory president in the Pee Dee section was asked 75 cents by the Underwriters, hut insured ' out of the State for 45cents. The Yorkville Enquirer tells us that ?"The Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance Company of York County has been carrying quite a considerable amount of insurance at a cost of only 35 cents per $100, as against $1.20 per $100 for the stock companies.-' Chesterfield county should have a mutual fire insurance company. Who can or will organize one? The minister was hard at . work repairing the fence ol his chicken yard. Noticing the careful attention given to the work by a small sop of his next door neighbor, the clergyman asked kindly: "Are you getting some points on carpentry, Harold?" "No, sir," said Harold. "I'm . just awaitin' to hear wot a preacher says w'en he mashes his thumb wit' de hammer." Dr. R. L. McManui DENTIST 1 Pageland, S. C. I Pageland Tuesday of each I week. Mt. In 10 rounds ot fast fighting he defeated Frank Moran of Pittsburg here tonight on points A crowd of about 13,000 persons paid approximately $150,000 to see the fight and went away apparently satisfied with the result. It was the greatest gathering Madison Square Garden had ever seen. Many women were in the throng. Willard broke his right hand in the third rnnnd htu hlnws from his fighting left kept Moran at a distance. Moran's best round was the third and his worst probably was the seventh. He was bleeding after the fifth round, and his left eye was almost closed at the end.
