The boiler room at the shaft
at the Howie Mine was He?tr?\'.
ed by fire Friday night, says the
Waxhavv Enterprise. The fire
caught in the roof from a flue.
Fortunately, the boiler was some
little distance from any other
building and the fire- did not
spread. At the same time there
were several workmen in the
shaft and when the steam was
cut off the hoisting machinery
was paralized and two of the
men had to climb out from a
depth of nearly three hundred
feet. In a short time the air =
pipes were connected to the big
boiler at the rock mill and steam
conveyed in this manner operated
the hoisting crank.
