The fellow who stole the liquor
from the express office here
Monday night must have been
inirsty indeed.
- ?
The express agent's work in a
town near the North Carolina
line is heavy about this time
of the year. The quart law
doesn't suit a good manv of the
tar heels, and they eoine down
and carry off whole gallons, and
do it quite frequently.
The diplomatic relations between
the Uuited States govern
ment and Austria have become
strained because of the Ancona
affair. The situation is considered
somewhat grave. Con
gress is no,w in session, and there
is far more danger of a rupture
than when the congressman
were at linmu linin r\, ?-i <v tlmlr

fences.
k Senator Tillman has taken his
place in the work of the Senate
once more. His health has been
so poor for several years that he
was unable, to do much active
work, but he looks as robust as
ever and on Monday he made a
speech in the senate in which he
pleaded for an armor plate plant
for the government vis the first
step in the preparedness program
of President Wilson. He
has lost some of the fire of old,
but experience has sobered him
There has never been a chau
tauqua held here, and there are
a number of people, possiblv,
who do not understand the na
ture of the chautauqua attrac
tions. The chautauqua is an
educational show, not a circus,
mind you, nor a vaudeville, but
a real high class, helpful attraction
by persons of superior
talent, the kind the prachers and
good church people can openly
approve. In fact the preachers
are among die most enthusiastic
advocates of the chautauqua.
The one which is coming to
Pageland will last for three davs
and there will be six attractions, \
one each afternoon and night.
In the forenoon of each day a ~
speaker of state or national
prominence will address the
people. Everybody in the whole
section should plan to attend. It
is for the people in the country
as well as in the town.

Mr. Luke Mills and Miss
I Crissie Pigg were married at the
home of the bride's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Amos Pigg, Sunday
afternoon about 4:30 o'clock by
Rev. J.. A. McGraw. The oar
lor was beautifully decorated for
the occasion.
Misses Cora and Carrie Mills
and Misses Ella and Beulah Pigg,
sisters of the groom and bride
respectively, Messrs. Curtis and
Niven Laney, Sam Graves and
Harley Evans were the attendants.
Besides these there were
a great number of friends and
relatives to witness the ceremony,
after which they were received
in the dining room. Here i
an abundance of refreshments'
was served.
The bride is a bright and at
tractive young lady. Mr. Mills
is a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. H.
Mills. He is a very industrious
young man.
Many friends join in congratulations
and best wishes for a
long and happy life together.
