thirsty indeed.
I"he i np!ess agent's work in a
tow,, near the North Carolina
liar is lii'itvv about this time
ol the year. The quart law
doesn't suit a good many of the
tar heels, and they come down
ami carry off whole gallons, and
do it quite frequently.
1 he diplomatic relations between
the I uited States govern
ment and Austria have become
strained because of the Ancona
affair. The situation is considered
somewhat grave. Con
gress is noyv in session, and there
is far more danger of a rupture
than when the congressman
were at home mending their
fences.
Senator Tillman has taken his
place in the work of the Senate
iiikv more. Mis health has been
>o poor for several years that he
was unable to do much active
work, hut he looks as robust as
ever ami on Monday he made a
speech in the senate in which he
pleaded for an armor plate plant
lor the government as the first
step in the preparedness propram
of President Wilson. He
has lost some of the fire of old,
^ hut experience has sobered him
and he is now ,a much wiser sen
step forward for Pageland.
There has never been a chau
i.uuiua held here, and there are
a number of people, possible,
who do not understand the na
lure ol the chautauqua attrac
lions. The chautauqua is an
educational show, not a circus,
mind you. nor a vaudeville, but
a real high class, helpful attract
ion by persons of superior
talent, the kind the prachers and
good church people can openly
approve. In fact the preachers
are among 'he most enthusiastic
advocates of the chautauqua.
The one which is coming to
l'ageland will last for three davs
and there will he six attractions,
one each afternoon and night.
In the forenoon of each day a
speaker of state or national
prominence will address the
people. K very body in the whole
section should plan to attend. It
is lor the people in the country
as \\ I'll as in the town.

Pigg-Mills
Mr. Luke Mills and Miss
Crissie Pigg were married at the
home of the bride's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Amos Pigg, Sunday
afternoon about 4:30 o'clock by
Rev. J.. A. McGraw. The oar
lor was beautifully decorated for
the occasion.
Misses Cora and Carrie Mills
and Misses Ella and Beulah Pigg,
sisters of the groom and bride
respectively, Messrs. Curtis and
Niven Laney, Sam Graves and
Harley Evans were the attendants.
Besides these there were
a great number of friends and
relatives to witness the ceremony,
after which they were re
iceived in the dining room. Here
an abundance of refreshments
was served.
The bride is a bright and at
tractive young lady. Mr. Mills
is a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. H.
Mills. He is a very industrious
young man.
Many friends join in congratu
lations and best wishes for a
long and happy life together.
