Mr.
Robt. New left yesterday
to take charge of a single mill
for Mr. J. L. Johnson 8 or 9
miles from Swansea.
Mr. Sam Mancrum left vester
day for Mint Hill, N. C. to enter
Ment Hill graded school. He
will board with Dr.and Mrs.A.
M. D. Whitley.
Mr. E. R. McKay has been
elected policeman to succeed
Mr. C. J. Funderburk, resigned.
The election is effective September
1st.
Mr. R. W. Outen, son of Mr.
H. Z. Outen, of Pageland, Route
3, entered school at Wingnte
yesterday, where he will attend
until the opening of school here.
Rev. G. T. Harmon, of Cheraw,
will preach a Masonic
sermon to the public at the
Presbyterian church here on
Monday night, August 23rd.
V Rev. M. C. King reports a good
meeting at Bethlehem last week.
There were 14 additions, 7 bv
baptism and 7 bv letter. Excellent
behavior.
Wingate school opened yester
day morning. The prospects for a
successfull year are good. A
business course has been added
which will give students good
business training.

couple of weeks with his son,
Mr. B. B. Belk, who has had
typhoid fever.

Mr. J. A. Arant carried his
"first bale" to Monroe this
morning, August 18th. This is
five days ahead of his schedule.
He says the bate will weigh at
least five hundred.
Mr. E. S. Mangum, who has
been with the Consumer's
Grocery Co. in Florence for several
months is moving his family
to Florence. Mr. Mangum and
family are good people, and we
regret to see them go.
Mr. Baxter Nash, son of Mr.
Solomon Nash, of the Faulks
section, and Miss Blake Brooks,
daughter of Mr. Hampton
Brooks, of Lanes Creek township,
were married last Wednesday
by Rev. J. A. Bivens.
Rev.R.W.Cato reports a good
meeting at Mt.Moriah last week,
in which there were twenty
three additions to the church,
nineteen of which were by baptism.
Rev. Hovle Bird assisted
him. They are conducting a
meeting at Mt.Pisgah this week.
