It's hardly time to swat the fly,
but it is high time to break up
his breeding place. Flies breed
only in filth, and they do not
travel far. If von have flies you
are most likely to blame. About
ninety per cent, of the flies
breed in horse manure. Keep
the stables clean and few flies
will be seen.
Good roads have a money
value far beyond our ordinary
perception. Bad roads constitute
our greatest drawback to internal
development and material
progress. Good roads mean
prosperous furthers; bad roads'
mean abandoned farms, thinly
settled country districts, ami
densely populated cities, where
the poor are destined to become
poorer. Good roads mean more
cultivated farms and cheaper

transportation, lack of communication,
high prices for the
necessities of lite, the loss ol
thousands and thousands of dollars
in wealth, and idle workmen
seeking a job.
We have just thrown another
of those patent medicine advertising
contracts into the waste
basket, just as we do all of them
as they come. This one was for
fifty-two dollars, less the agents
commission, and we could have
pocketed this amount just as
well as to have refused it. We'
do not believe in patent medicines
and we refuse to be hired

to aid in putting them down the
throats of our readers. Patent
medicines do not cure people
except in very rare cases and
then it is usually at the expense
of some otherwise healthy organ.
Nearly . all patent medicines
contain harmful ingredients,
and the habit grows. No
one has ever seen a real strong,
healthy person who had taken
very much patent medicine.
The person who gets well does
.so, not because of the medicine,
but in spite of it.
We don't .think it wise to
speiuPmoney and risk health on
patent medicines, and we don't
take money from and aid those
who swindle the good but innocent
people out of hard earned
money. Take the concoctions
ii you win, Dili n is a mistake.
It is much better to leave them
alone. r~~

The Idea!
The two girls met in the big
arcade, and one of them was so
all full of a question she wanted
to ask that she couldn't wait till
they were comfortably seated by
the soda fountain, says The
Cleveland Plain Dealer. That's
how we came to get this conversation:
"Tell me, dearie, why did you
tie a can to Hobby.
"Jlist because he has no tact."
"Tact?" Why, when I knew
him he was alway saying nice
tilings."
"So he does. Hut nice things
aren't always the right things?
The other day we were walking
down the street, and he was telling
me how much he loved me. _
