The Bradford bill tequiring
county boards of commissioners
to license dealers in pistol and
rifle cartridges was passed by
the house Monday night without
opposition.
A bill has passed the house of
representatives to authorize
moving pictures in the public
schools of South Carolina,- but
17 of the 44 counties are exempted.

acreage bill passed
by the extra session of the legislature
last fall will likely be repealed
by the regular session.
The vote in the house was taken
Monday night, and 81 representatives
voted to repeal the act
and 22 voted against the repeal.
The two "Chesterfield representatives
voted against the repeal.
Prohibition is gaining ground
in South Carolina. State-wide
prohibition is only a question of
time. The "matter will in all
probability be submitted to the
voters in an election next summer.
The present house of representatives
seems to be very
strongly in favor of the prohibition
measures being introduced

permit must be affixed to shipments
of liquor as authorization

Sorgum, or just common cane,
is a crop that may be grown by
the farmers is this section for
forage and for molasses. It is
easily cultivated and quickly
harvested for feed. Its excellent
qualities as a feed are recogniz
ed by a rapidly increasing number
of farmers, and it is probable
that much more will be grown
this year. The scarcity of cane
mills is probably responsible for
the limited acreage planted each
year for molasses. More mills

states should be stopped. This
section should sell molasses
instead of buying:.
The farmers have not learned
to appreciate the value of the
uane seea. l lie seed are worth
as much or more than corn as a
feed, and everyone knows how
high and scarce planting seed
are in the spring. Cane
seed may be threshed
easily and satisfactorily on an
ordinary thresher. What good
reason then can be given for
buying high priced seed from
other markets.-'.
"Daddy" Huggins
Ir the "County News" column
of the Marshville Home last
week appeared the usual "Ches
terfield county" and the credit
to the "Pageland Journal" but
the news w?? not thorn in
the editorial column was this
declaration "We can do a whole
tot for this town in 1914?if we
try."
In the local colurhn, however*
was the explanation of these
. errors. It read as follows:
"Born to Mr. and Mrs. L. E.
Huggins Saturday, a daughter,
Lil Kirk Huggins."

Although the weather was
very threatening and disagreeable
yet a nice congregation
met us at Zion last Sunday and
of course went home in the cold
rain.
We are constantly being put
under renewed obligation^ of
gratitude to our friends but last
Friday night a number of our
Pageland friends with some from
out of town, came to the parsonage
with packages of pantry
supplies and thus our obligations
for gratitude were deepened.
The next day one of our
Baptist members, whom we
divide with Bro. Purvis, gave us
a bag ot corn. This brother has
been a close friend of ours since

One of our members told us
that "They" did not let him
know anything of the purpose
to pound the preacher, therefore
he was treated mean. That
sounds like the parsonage household
was treated badly too, to
that extent We will appreciate
"him" and forgive "them" all
the same and endeavor to do
our best toward all.
Next Sunday we will be at Mi.
Croghan at 11 a. m. and at Pa; eland
at 7:15 p. m.
The board of circuit Stewards
will meet at Pageland on Febru
ary Pub at 11 o'clock.
