South Carolina has been
characterized as a valley of
humiliation between two mountains
of conceit, said mountains
buing Georgia and North Carolina.

W. J. Tiller, the county demonstration
agent for Chesterfield
county, made the statement at
the Farmer's institute here Saturday
that he had received more
encouragement in his work and
had seen greater results in this
part of the county than in any
other section. Prof. Hutchinson,
of Clemson College, said he saw
farming along the road that is
not two per cent, wrong, and
that there are farmers in this
section who are making crops
that would make profitable an
investment of one thousand
dollars per acre.
These are a few more facts
which show how marvelons the
change in farming methods has
been.

Hurled Thirty Feet From Bridge
By Speeding Car.
Lexington, Aug. 23.?A big
car driven by Everett '"'rotts,
owner, of Winston-Salem crashed
into a bridge over the South1

north of Lexington this afternoon
and Will Money and
"Tobe" McGee, sitting on the
rear seat, were hurled over the
edge of the bridge and to the
tracks 30 feet below. McGee
was seriously hurt internally.
Money suffered a broken wrist
and other injuries.
The rear wheel of the car was
smashed and one panel of the
strong iron railing was torn
away. Witnesses who saw the
accident say that the car was going
30 miles an hour when it
struck the bridge.
Made a Cushion of Him.
Dr. Jerome of Wingate started
out Sunday to see a patient and
took Mr. Ellis May along-for
good luck. And Mr. May certainly
did come in handy when
the doctor's horse became frightened
and turned the buggy over,
for he furnished a cushion for
the Doctor to light on. As thev
were going along the horse became
frightened at Mr. Tom
Ashcraft's machine and turned
the buggy over. Mr. May spread
out on the ground and the Doctor,
who weighs three hundred,
lit on top of him. Mr. May's
head protruded from one side
and his feet wiggled round on
the other. Mr. Ashcraft camel
back and assisted the Doctor to
get up and free Mr. May. The
latter says he has read in the
Bible about the wicked wanting
the mountains to fall on them,
but that he has now had all he
wants in this line.?Monroe

on entertainment so much for

Our trip to Liberty Hill last
Sunday afternoon was enjoyed
very much. They have a splendid
Sunday school for a countiy
church, about 80 were present

to take an active part in these
services. Also visitors who may
be in our Mown are cordially invited

Thursday, September 10th, 1914,
on the question of establishing a
State High School in Pageland
School district 43, within the
meaning of acts 1824 to 1835
inclusive of the code of 1912.
At said election persons residing
in said district, who return real
or personal property for tax
ation, and who are otherwise
qualified to vote as in general
elections, will be allowed to
vote. Said election does not involve
the lew or rnllprfinn of
any tax other than the present
levy, but is held for the purpose

for state aid within the meanins:
