Evidently young Trull, who
is held without bail for the murder
of Sidney Swain in Charlotte
Saturday night, forgot where he
was. He must have thought he
was in South Carolina, where
murder is not a very serious
charge.

The State Democratic convention
meets in Columbia today.
A majority of the delegates have
been instructed to work for re
form of the rules governing
the ' primary, which is
virtually the election in this state.

both factions charged fraud, and
there was probably good reason
for such charges.. The vote was
too heavy to be fair.
It is expected that the rules

[attempt will be made to allow
each white voter the privilege of
casting one ballot, and only one.
We hope this can be done.

are the latest additions. Besides

men have hinted or declared their
intention to be in the race for

We reluctantly take issue with
the fair editor of the Lancaster
News as to the percentage of
lawyers that should be in the
legislatures. She is unable to
understand why we take the
position that lawyers should not
control the sessions of the legislatures
of the various states, and
cites the records of W. F. Stevenson,
T. Y. Williams, A. G.
Brice and J. P. Carey to show
that lawver is a avnonvm for
legislator. We grant that these
men have mado enviable records
but we assert that if as many
men of other professions had
been elected to the legislature in
South Carolina in the last twenty
years a larger number would
have stood out as brainy men,
able to plan and work out legislation
of importance to the
masses of the people. The re
cords of the sessions of the leg
islature do not impress one aj
being the work of an unusalh
able body of men, though tin

We are still of the opinion tha
one profession can not properh
represent all the people. Tin

this reason a few are needed

Last Sunday was cliildrens
day at Zion. A large congregation,
a nicely rendered program
and a jjood collection- marked
the features of the morning.
The fifth Sunday night has
been fixed upon as the time for
the chilurens day exercises at
Pageland.
The superintendent requests
that all the children of the Sun
day School meet with him at the
church next Saturday afternoon,
at 4:30 o'clock.
We will not preach at Zion
next Sunday, but on the fifth
Sunday at 11 o'clock. Sunday
School at Zion at 10 a. m., also
the fifth Sunday at 10 a. m.
We will preach at Prices on
the fifth Sunday at 4 o'clock
p. m., in place of the first Sun,i

I knew that what I am about to
write would be read and appreciated
by any one, it would be a
real pleasure to write in the
most trying circumstances.
We left Monroe in company,
with Bro. F. C. Snider of ingate
which of course made it
easier for us to pass away the
time. We
have with us Brethern
Cato, Caston and Faile, all of
South Carolina. Bro. Funderburg
for some reason or other
has failed to show up, tho we
have met nearly every train that
would likely bring him.
First of all we have not failed
to pray God's richest blessings
upon those who have made it
possible for us to be he'.e.
Last evening the convention
reached high water mark when
nine young men stood on the
stage

This service made a profound
impression on the immense audience
of 8,000 people. The
services were so impressive that
some of the brethren volunteered
to pay $600.00 on the salary of a
missionary on the foreign field.
Today, Friday, has been a
