Here it is May and we have
not said a word about it, but we
can refrain no longer and we
therefore say with emphasis
Swat the fly!
Every day almost we see hay,
corn, oats, meat and lard being
carried away on the farmers'
wagons, and every time we see
it>ve are reminded that money
Is going to the railroads and
Western farmers that is needed
here. It pains us to see this and
the ever increasing flow of fertilizer
money go on from year to
' year when our people need every
available dollar for improvements
at home.
This is an unusually hard
spring on farm work animals,
and the man who shows mercv
taward his faithful beasts will
not lose but gain. See that all
the gears and harness fit, and |
then be reasonable in your demands.
It is just as much a sin
to overwork and cruelly treat
stock as it is to steal or cuss, and
each act will bring its punishment
as surely as the sun shines
in the heavens. Horses and
mules have feeling and can suffer
just as human beings do.
They get tired and hungry and
thirsty and they deserve humane
^ treatment.

Mr. J. Z. Green, of Marshville,
a man who has been preaching
cooperation among farmers for
years, has just put into operation
a rural delivery wagon for the
convenience of the farmers
along the route traveled each
Saturday by this wagon. He
delivers fresh fish four pounds
for a quarter and buys eggs

service by including: any and all
small articles the farmers may
want to buy or sell. The present
route runs south from

south again and follows the public
road by B. F. Parker's, M. C.
Helms', G. B. Walters, and back
to Marshville by Ashcraft's mill
and Gilboa. The first trip was
made last Saturday. More than
one hundred families will be on
or near the route, and this new
convenience is appreciated by
the patrons. Each family will
number the eggs delivered to
the wagon and guarantee them
to be fresh, and Mr. Green expects
to be able to pay more
than the market price for all
such eggs. This nevy venture
in farm conveniences will he
watched with interest, .
