0. F. Cheathanm, Esq., the newly
elected clerk of court for Edgeflld
county, is in quiet possession of his
office, including seal, books and
records. Mr. Cheatham received
his commission from Governor
Uampton, and at once took peaceful
charge of tihe office. His first offi
cial aot was to approve the bonds of
the new county commissioners.
One day last week, as a party of
young men wer'e preparing for a
h ut, Mr. * W. 0. Hampton com
menced loading his doubl-barreled1

his skil, killing him instantly. Mr.
Hampton was from Georgia, aind at
