s :. r - .n de's Prayer. Father. I eo'm befor. Thv l'reno, W ith how .1111 ;.!Nne., To thank Thee, with a grateful tone, For all Thy love to ine. Forgive me, if moy heart this hour, *l give not all to Thee, For deep afrection's mniglhty power, Divides it now with ''hee, Thon knowest,' Fther, cvery thought That wakes within my breast, And how this heart has vainly sought To keep its love suppressed. Yet when the idol, worshipped one, Sits fondly by liy side, And breathes the vows I cannot shun, To me, his d.st ined bride Forgive me, if the loving kiss, lie leaves upon my brow, Is thought of in an hour. like this, And thrills me even now. Ile's chosen 2n1 ho be his lov' And comforter through life; Enable mae, oh God, to prove, A loving, faithful wife. He knows not father, all the deep Aflections I control The thousand loving ihoughts that sweep Re'-istless o'er miy soul. I~e knows not each deep fount of love That gushes warm and free Nor can he ever, ever, prove AMy warm idolatry. Then guard him, Father-round his way Thy choicest blessings cast. And render each successive day Still happier than the last. And, Father, grant us so to live That when this life is o'er Within the happy home you give, We'll mee' to part no store. AGRICULTURAL, From the Southern Agriculturist. Oalihousa Cotton and the Sea sonv. This species of cotton was introdu -eed in this neighborhood a few years since by3 a gentleran from the WVest, 'who gave Dr. Calhoun a few seeds, from which we have it species of cotton well adapted to this climate. The ad vantages I conceive consists in the fiol 'lowing :particulars: First, it is very forward 4 second, it is remarkably pro lifie; third, it has a long staple, con pared with the Jethro, by G. Walker, *of Charlestoni-he gave it the prefer ence; fourth, it has produced considera bly more the present year than any .other cotton ; fifth, it turns out more .from the gin. My neiglhbor, Mr. iBlake, reports 37 pounds.from 100 pounds seed cotton and I know of to ,nstance where it has not made from :800 to 1200 .pounds per here. My :friend, I)r. Leland, planted 32 acres of land-not reinarkuhte for t-rtility 'from which he has gathered 24 bales, :avoraring 380 ronutnds. and from the -same quantity of hand, planted in the ,common kind of coittoni, lhe has made ti0 bales. Now, Mr. Editor, 1 suppose you ethrink 1 must certainly have some of - the seed for sale, as I have praised it :so highly. Not so. 1 planted 15 'acres the present year, from which I have made 10 bales. Abotut halfof the land planted was gooid, the bal ane~ poor ; and adjoining, I had the willow cotton planted, which I think did not exceed 600 pounds per acre, in good fresh land. I am so wvell sat isfiedi of the superiority of this cotton ab~ove anry otheor kind that. I have ever planted, that I have given Drt. Calhoun 100 bushels of wheat for. a hrundredl bushels of seed. I think it resembllles Boyd's extra prolifrc. which was exi bited at the Augusta Fair. I repeat it, I have none of the seed for sale, nid have no0 interest in commrrenrdinmg thmem to the public, only so far as it will b)enefit the planters. Should tiny of tire readers of your paper wish to try them the next season, may frienrd, D)r. This, Mr. Editor, lhas been one of those trying years on tihe plhmter extremes of d roght and wet. which is fatal to the cotton cro~p. TIhe crops of co)tton raid corn are shlort in this Dis trict--corn barely enough for' comm smmption.
