A nAm. lau.--Ve give (says the art ford ('utran,)'the folowing extraet qf a letter from a gentleman of Alabama tQ a friend in this city. as a specimen of 'the state of feeling in the interior counties of thao Soth. The writer is a native of Conneticut, who has resided in Alabama for soma years, and fully understands the vi f those about whomi he writes: - t Calhoun could not effect 'in twO, years, has been done in six weeks, v:z, a union of the South, 1 do assure you that, in this county,,one of the wealthiest, and containing as quiet and intelligent a populatiou as there is in the United States --whig ton-where first there wds a'large Union party-there is now nooone promm ent citizeu that I know of, or have heard of, thit does not say the time Ins come for eLessionl. For one, with ninny - ties to ind me to the North-born there-having friends and relations from whom it would (be painful to dilner-having hoped, and, intil tny recent visit-to the north, having expected that my children and yours would live and (ie under the same government our fathers had-it was with great reluc lance that I was convinced that the North would not leave us alone, which was all we asked. As it is, I an prepared coolly and calmly to vote for secession, and, if it. is necessary, to sustain the vote with life and fortune. The Union, as it has been ,,<<m anaged for some years, has no friends here. Those who hoped justice froin the North nrc giving ip their hopes, since the newi n caie of the action in Ohio, l'ennisyl vntila, and especially in MA:ssachusetts. N thing but the e(Pctual wnking up "f the Union inei, (if any such there be,) at the North, and their ellctuil putting down of' slavery agit.ation I here, can now save the Union. No Union party here can save it. 'Their grnd has been taken from under them by the nulbiication of the shave law, and the renewed and increasing agitation " 'T the slave queationi at the North."
