DIE D-At the residence of Capt. James
It, Ingremi, in Kershaw District, on Wed
htesd)y evening, th 11th inst., of typhus
fever, Mr. JonN F. Envus, in the 20th
year of his ago.
Mr. E. was the son of Robt. W. and
Iouiaft A. M. Ervin, of Iincaster District.
The rmany erninent qualities of the deceas
ed, had won for hit the esteem of those
vho kn.,w hit, and his memory needs no
triute of praise. In hie private character,
ho was mill, prudent and ellectionate; as a
man iof bitsittess assiduous and faithful; as
a son{ he was distinguished for Iis filial
obedience, as a brother, for his kindness,
ahd a'U a friend, for his sincerity and attach
m it.
In'April last, he was enabled, by Divine
gr.ace. to entertain a comfortable hope that
lie had experienced a change of heart, and
became a imber of the Methodist Epis
copal Church, in which lie remained to
adorn the religion of the cross up to the
time of his death. A short time before his
dissolution took place, the disease having
preyed upon his vitals to such an extent as
to deprive him of speech, he was request
ed hv a nious lady with whome he was ac
quainted, to raise his hand as a token of h's
taith in his savior, and of his acceptance
with God-ho raised both hands, thereby
aflirding another instance of the triumphs
of the gospel in the hour of death, and
-leaving to his relatives and friends the con
soling hope that their loss is his infinite
gain. .. 8.
Alas! how vain are earthly hopes,
E'en on the brow of yonth!
A lingering, fading dying light,
Before the sun of truth;
There's not a lie, however fond
On earth, but what is riven,
But leaves the hope upon the heart
All will be well in Heaven.
Then who would weep when IHeaven's
.heirs
Their rich possessions take,
And sleep all free from cares within,
'T'hat brighther world awake?
