The Fair commenced under favorable auspices on the evening of the 9th, and continued wvith succebs through -several successive evenings. The tables weore ornamented wvith beautiful wreathis, w'hich served as frontal canopies 'for the fair presiding queens, and weore profusely co vered wvith articles for fancy as wecll as use. which tried the genorosity of the vis iters. It is desirable that the object of the fair should be accomplished, and wve hope 'for such a result. It closedJ ot the 14th. "bONS OF TEMPER ANCE" PUBLIC . - MEETING. A greeably to; a rule, obligatory on The Sons of Ternperance, a general 01ld fash lnell temperance meeting was hield bv the Sumter Division of this Order at the Methodist Church in Sumtervillo on the 1st of Nov. At 11 o'clock, the church was well fil. led with an audience of ladies and gentle men, whlen the proceedings of the meet ing wvere opened with prayer by the R1ev. N. Graham, Chaplain of the Division. The object wvas then stated by the presid ing W. P., Rev. W. Lewvis, afler which regalia weore distributed to the officers and members, who next sung "Be days of drinking wvine forgot" wvith, skill and much - earnestness. .An address wvas next delivered by Mr. F. M. Adams, a member, in which ho took a general view of the subject of in temperance, and spoke of the objects and d'esigns of the Order of The Sons of Term perance. He' was followed by the Rev. Mr. Bart 1ett, wvho discussed and refuted some of thenobjeotionse against the Order. The Rev. Mr. Furman, of the Bznptist Thco. logical Institute, succeeded him, and was followed by the'-Rev. Tr. B. Russell, who, *ih a happy manner, gratifid the au dience, nor did ie forget the "Cold Water .A rmy," present in full numbers. The WV. P., Rev..WI. The session closed on the 14th. NEW POST OFFICES. Three new post offices have lately been established in this district,. Shiloh, Taylors ville, and Wright's Bluff,-the two first be ing on the Bradleyvillo route. LT. DURYEA. This well known temperance lecturer de livered an address on tho.subject, on the eve ing of the 13th, at the Baptist church in this place. On so hackneyed a subject, -little that is new can be produced; his audience however were gratified by the earnestness, arguments, felicitous manner and sentiments of the orator. ELECTION FRAUb. In the course oftie examiination of a wit ness in a case tried during the present term of the' court, the witness testified that le vo tedat the late election, though not of the age of 21, by putting a piece of paper, with 21 written on it, in his shoe, and so voting, !being," as he -said, "orer 21? rThe Judge commented very severely on this fraud on the election, and so treated at without an indictmnent, wvhich, however, he was very strongly mnclined to set on foot. If this had been done, the witness would have fared badly, and his vote wo'uld have cost him dearly. PERIODiCA LS. The Nov. On motion of Col James E Rembert, a committee of seven Consisting of Rev Henry D Green, Cel James E Rombert, Capt J 'J Chandler, Col W Nettles, Rev JT L Bartlett, Col R Rt Spann, D B3 McLaurin, Esq, was appointed to ascertain what improvemenms and repairs are necessary, and contract for the same on the most favorable terms. On motion of F Hi Kennedy, a committee of five consisting, F HI Kennedy, M P May, Rev J S Richardson, Cot F J Iloses, Dr J 1B Witherspoon, was .appointed to prepare a charter for said Co., and draft a memorial to the Legislature for ani act of Incorporation.
