Abolitionists, onthe Rail Road -Cars!
The foljowing incident has been brough
to our noticeas ills*trating the . necessity
of guiarding -our servants against the con
vereation -of evilly disposed aind crafty per
sods, wvhile travelling on the rail road, at
well as elsewhere. -
ge'itlemn o this district lad occasion
lately to sendf a man servant, by Rail Road
to Charleston, who haddetermined to learc
his.master; but, to prevent his escnpe, hIh
master ha'd him secured and put under the
eare if a trutty person to take him down.
On the way, the person, in charge of the
servant, observed three men, (one a ped.
16r,). in conversation with the servant, and
overheard one of them makea remark to the
servant,"that the negroes in this country
weretreated no better than dogs'" They
theniHlft hin aini got-into a low. convetsn.
tion to themselven.' One inquired of the
others, if they could not whip that person;
meaning- the person in charge of the ser
vanit. They- w'ere then watchtid; which
they tlistovered; ail one of thein said toi
the personin chargeof the servant,-"yoii
had better iang the fellow," (th1e nlegri.)
The person in churge of the negrc. took
hisgent 1)y the negro, nill inqnired of him,
what had been said to him; who answered.
that they had talked differently to him.
when they found they were wittched, and
while the person in charge of the negrou
-near him, kept at a distance.
Our imotive for noticing, this is, that the
directors of the rail road cars may matk
some regulations to prevent persons, not
owners, having any intercourse with ser
~vants in te cars. Thtere is tn doubt, that
thes.e men had' some im prop.er design on
Lhi' negro. They appeared not to be n
