TRIAL JUSTICES?
Wc publish in to-day's paper a bill,
providing for the rappointment and
salary of Trial Jbstices in this county
which was introduced and pressed
through the Senate by Senator
Duncau. The bill, if it meets the
approval of the House, will cut down
materially the cost of the system as
presently constituted.
The taxes in this County will
range between 13 ttnd 141 mills. In
this immediate Township the latter
will have to bo paid, there having
been previously levied a tax of 2 mills
for local school purposes. The
County is hard up, but wc suppose
the money ?will have to come. One
good thing is that there will be no
misappropriation of public fun.Is in
future. Let the people plant plenty
of corn and there will bohcLlei limes
alter this year. We beard one man
say the other day that he had plowed
up his cotton and put down corn in
its place.

ICvery young lady you see upon tho
street, dignified and made lovely by
the witcheries of grace, beauty and
intelligence, is not' tho soft Know
Nothing that she is generally set
down for. One upon seeing Miss So?
and-so would think that sho never
squeezed a ycuug man's hand, where
as if the truth should ever happen to
be made public in future, the grateful
public will learn that tiny arms, in
her Ease, have been, and may be again
in the future, wrapped around the
form of a stalwart sou of man.
Sly glances, sly rides, sly walks, sly
attentions, sly engagements mean a
good time for young men, as witne ss
the following dropped from a young
holy's pocket:
Hearts were made to break,
Hands were made to squeeze,
]&ycs were made to roll about,
Ami make men do a* you please.
Kiirs were made to burn.
Feet .vcre made to .show,
Girls were made to flirt with the men,
lint men with girls?oh, no !
\Yaists, were made to hug,
Tongues were made to tune,
Arms were made to circle the girls.
And lovers were made to spoon.
Eyelids were made to droop.
Checks were made to blush,
Hair was made to curl and friz,
Ami Ups were ninde?oh, hush !

A few mouths ago a Russian pea
sant and his wile and four children,
i while traveling in a sleigh along the
banks of the Pruib, were pursued by
a pack of wolves. The peasant urged
on the horses, but soon saw that the
wolves were fast gaining upon him.
At the moment when the sleigh was
surrounded by the ravenirig beasts
the man seized one of the children,
threw it * in the midst of them, and
while the wolves were struggling
over their prey he hastened on his
horses and gained ground. Four
linns the wolves came up with the
ftigiliyiSj and lour limes the horrible
sacrifice was completed. At last the
peasant and his wife arrived at the
nearest village, leaving behind them
the bones of their four children. In
the bitterness of her despair the
mother informed against her husband,
Lul the judges considering that if the
peasant had not resigned him sell t>
the horrible sacrifice he would not
only have lost children, but also his
wife, acquitted the prisoner.
