A fancy costume ball will he given at Meioney's parlor on Tuesday night next, and will be under the super vision of tho following gentlemanly committee: Jas. Hamilton, A. M. Briggmann, A. K. Glover and B. B. Leo. The names of these young gentlemen will make the ball a suc cess. TRIAL JUSTICES? Wc publish in to-day's paper a bill, providing for the rappointment and salary of Trial Jbstices in this county which was introduced and pressed through the Senate by Senator Duncau. The bill, if it meets the approval of the House, will cut down materially the cost of the system as presently constituted. The taxes in this County will range between 13 ttnd 141 mills. In this immediate Township the latter will have to bo paid, there having been previously levied a tax of 2 mills for local school purposes. The County is hard up, but wc suppose the money ?will have to come. One good thing is that there will be no misappropriation of public fun.Is in future. I The Pomora Grange meets again at Orangeburg on the 1st Saturday in 1 Jiilv. A few mouths ago a Russian pea sant and his wile and four children, i while traveling in a sleigh along the banks of the Pruib, were pursued by a pack of wolves. The peasant urged on the horses, but soon saw that the wolves were fast gaining upon him. At the moment when the sleigh was surrounded by the ravenirig beasts the man seized one of the children, threw it * in the midst of them, and while the wolves were struggling over their prey he hastened on his horses and gained ground. At last the peasant and his wife arrived at the nearest village, leaving behind them the bones of their four children. In the bitterness of her despair the mother informed against her husband, Lul the judges considering that if the peasant had not resigned him sell t> the horrible sacrifice he would not only have lost children, but also his wife, acquitted the prisoner.
