On Wednesday last this young
gentleman departed for Is'ew York.
The stagnation of business here in
duced hiin^o hunt employ men t in
that great Metropolis. Mr. Wahlers
was Foreman of the Hook and Ladder
Company ftud his exit deprives that
organization of his valuable sorviccs.
He is a young man of much promise
and has our hearty wishes for his
future welfare.
"Wanted at this office, an editor wh-o

NOT PRETTY?
We saw a young lady the. other
day with a crowd of ringed hair
hanging down over her forehead.
Frizzes are pretty, but a pound of
1 twisted hair hanging from under ones,
hut undies a young woman's face look
like a calabash with a coon's tail lied
around it.

'fliese thieves are supposed to be in
the County yet. The silver taken is

TUE OR Uli EH, FAMILY?
This wonderful family pcrfomed in
Masonic Hall on Wednesday and
Thursdny nights of this week. The
programme was varied and interest
ing, consisting of vocal and instru
mental music. It may bo truthfully
said tlmt Mr. Gruber, his wife and
two little children, compose one of the
most extraordinary combinations of
musical talent in the country. We
cannot describe tho many pleasing
features of his performances. And,
withal, ho is a native and should be
liberally patronized. Those who
hnvc never seen the Gruber family
should avail tlieswelvo? "of the fir3t
opportunity presented to do so.
A PHOTOGRAPHER18 ADVICE?
Au English photographer makes
tho following suggestions : "When a
lady sitting for a picture would com
pose her mouth to a hland rnd serene
character, she should, just upon
entering the room, say 'bosom,' and
keep the expression into which the
mouth subsides until the desired effect
in ihc camera is evident. If, on the
other h md, she wishes to as-utn? a
I. distinguished and somewhat h?hle
bearing, not suggestive of sweetness,
she should say 'brush,' ihc resulted
which is infallible. If she wishes to
\ tunke her mouth look small, she must
I say -Hip,'but if tho mouth be already
too small and needs enlarging, she
must say 'cabbage.' If she wishes to
look mourn.ul. she must say 'ker
shunk;' if tVsi^no 1, shu must forcibly
ejaculate 's'cat.' "
THE A M El} I CA A FARMER?

cover to cover of time.'y and useful
in formation in '.very branch of bus

morons and able; the sub)eels they
treat arc of present iutcres"; the cdi
torials are. seasonable, and the. en
gravings illustrate tho text. Nothing
trite or trashy finds its way into the
pages of the "Old Piouees," but for
the ladies there are chapters 0:1 or
namental gardening, the care of
flowers, &c. No country household

SALE OF PCBLIC OFFICES?
According to public advertisement
the rows of brick and wooden build
ings in the Court House Square were
sold on salcday last. The two together
brought a bail t 8350. It is not known
j perhaps to the public that the build
) ings combined cost the county over
j three thousand dollars and were
! 'almost as good when sjld as when
j they were first finished and delivered
j to the county. The row of wooden
: buildings was built of good lumber,
i and could have been easily torn down

SCARCITY OF MONEY?
There is no doubt but the present
condition of nil kinds of business und
industry is ^fearfully depressed, und
it behooves every family to look cure
fully to their expenses. Winter is
coming on when children are liable'
to croup, whooping cough, etc. Cough
and colds will prevail everywhere,
and consumption, with other throat
and lung diseases will carry off many.
These diseases should not be neglect
cd, Doctors bills are expensive, and
we would advise our people to use
Bosch ee's German Syrup. It never
h:<s failed. One bottle at 7? cents
will keep your whole family well
during the winter. Two doses wil
relieve any case. Sold in all towns in
the United States, and by your Drug

Dr. A. C. D?KKS is giving

"Pearls for the Pec pie," containing
much valuable information and many
interesting articles. It also contains
a history of the discovery of the
"Hepalinc;" for diseases of the liver,
dyspepsia, coiitispation and indiges

ancc that when the Hepatinc is used
it effects a permanent and hi-iing euro

such an alarming extent in bur
