A cofiy of this week's issnc of the
Orangeb?r#News and Tim En will bo
placed in jtfe, corner stone for the new
Court House, the, levying of which is
to take place, with Mnponic ceremon
ies,.on the 25th inst. In view of this
fact we have thought it iiot inappro
priate to record below the names of
our various, public and private organi
zations, societies, churches, and public
officers, tngethrr with a )\s\ of onr
business men, and the nature of their
present occupations. ? Silently and
reverentially will this data bo con
signed, on Thanksgiving Day, to a
p)ace where it will bo securely shel
tered from wind and rnin, and from |
moisture aud decay. Hi nee, when we
and ours are*sperl, succeeding gene
rations may find, in the corner stone I
of the/Orangeburtr Court House, in-f
teresting traces of what we arc to-day. I
Vor who her the time he short or long, f
-lhat the News and Times shall rest I
entombed in the corner stone for the 1
public edifice now going up,it willun-1
dergo no material change, it wilt retain
these faithful imprints of the present. J
And let us hope that whatever may j
be the fate in store for us and Orange
burg, that the corner stone, to be thus
laid with Masonic solemnities, will
never be molested by invading tyrant*' f
hands, nor jostled in its bed by the
martial. tread^ of, our enemies. We
understand that, all the Masonic fra
ternities in the county will be present.

MaJ. A B. Knowlton.
We are gratified to announce that
our article of last week, which referred
to the election of Circuit Judges, and
in tho course of which Maj ; Kriowltoh
was suggested as n candidate for otto
of the upper Circuits, has met tin
unqualified approval of some of tho*
leading Republicans in the State.
The Aikcn Tribune?one of the ablest
papers in South Carolina?says that he
?'has already established a reputation*
all over the State as a sound lawyer,
an accomplished journalist and a
gentleman of the good old school."
Jt is gratifying to all faithful Re

He esteems the eonstitntion above all

This paper was the first journal in
the State to nominate Gov. Chamber
