We see that the 4Post Master has
moved .his office from Court House
square, to the store next to Mr. J W
Moselcy's. Our office here ha? been
long a peripapctic one, let us hope it
will rest on this move, the situation
now, is n good and convenient one,
ami we trust it will make a stay there
of some considerable length.
We learn that Miss A. M. Whaley
the daughter, of our esteemed towns
man Maj. T. B. Whaley departed this
life on Tuesday last after a lingering
and distressing sickness. Our eympa-1
tides go out toward the Major in this
heavy affection,. that deprives him of
an accomplished and loving daughter,
yet 'tis the tribute we must all p y to
the last great enemy Death.
MA YOH'S COUR1?
Some of citizens may uot know it,
but bis Honor the Mayor, holds court
every morning at 9 o'clock, to ? dis
pose of the different offenders against
the law. The scene is generally an
an:udug one. For instance, the morn
ing after the circus, his Honor sat
back in bis big arm chair. Consta
blcs bring in.a dozen prisoners, every
one oarel'ooted, with shoes iu their
hands the first one is a white man. a
"Corn Doctor." He comes up to the
desk with ten hmg white toes crawl
ing over the floor, and trying to g3t
rid of the feet, but the feet kept pull
ing them buck every now anil then.
His Honor asks, "what is the charge
against this man?" The long white
toes immediately begin to crawl again
but the Doctor gathered them up,
and said, "he was not dr ok," then
the toes bn ke agaiu, but again the
Doctor caught them, and the police
man got off, "drunk and disorder
ly/' you*.. Honoii then tho
toes reared, but they could
not get loose, so his Honor told them
they could either work on the streets
thirty days or leave town-within ten
hours, then the Doctor had no further
control, these confounded toes just1
turned and crawled straightout of the i
office, nud the Doctor followed them
toward the Railroad. On porting we
suggested to cut their naila ofT, but he
only made some incoherent remarks
about "fouls," we suppose he alluded
to those toes. The rest of the crowd
came up iu order, and took their sen
tences like men. Some went to work
on the streets and others paid fines;
but there was not much fun in the
rest, either to themselves or to an
outsider.
