The effort to raise money to buy the
instruments for Ford hams Band, is
meeting with considerable success so
far as talk is concerned. We know
that tho. amount will bo raised, but
subscribe nt once gentlemen, nnd let's

with Proof. Fordham, the instruments
will be the property, and under the
control of the contributors or purchas
ers. Bead tho resolution heading tho
petition and put down your money at
once. One hundred and seventy-liye
dollars will buy the instruments for a
first class organization.

storm which occurred here on Saturday
evening last, and laid waste so many
other fcctions, was terrific beyond de

wind, and near the village a stable

Mrs. James A. O.Ues, the well
known actress, has dissolved partner
ship, matrimonial and professional,
with her second husband, Tracy Titus.
It appears to have been a case of
mother-in-law; Mrs. Gates' mother
having cross-examined Tracy in re
gard to some lady, and his memory,
like Becchcr's being defective,'Mrs.
Qatcs put her husband out of her apart
ment and her business. Now Mrs.
Oatcs vuns a portion of the theatrical
company and her husband another,
rendering the house divided against
itsclfantl ma.ital divorce imminent.

near my orchard this season. I obser
ved the tents of these caterpillars
forming on several different apple
trees, which were neglected through
the hurry of farm work. but. to my
surprise they all bad disappeared
without my help. Having a wild
cherry tree near my orchard, which
had been much troubled with tent
worms, I noticed the martins in great
numbers flying about this tree. In
watching their motions I soon discov
ered that they were devouring the
tent worms. Hence I could easily in
fcr.what had becomo/of th'^c on my
apple tree. If auy one'_ would free
himself from this pest, it can be done,
I think, by keeping a number of mar
tin boxes in or near bis orchard.'
They that do nothing are on the
way to do worse than nothing.
