Buriied Out.
On Tbnrsdny night 'ast, Mr. Tims.
A. Banks, living about ?even miles 1
North of Cfltndeu, liad the minfor- 1
tune to lose his entire household
effects, including what money he had
saved, by fire, lie and his family
were absent at the time, having left
home about dark, atter putting au
the fire out, and as the house was
burned about 8 o'clock it is supposed 1
to have been set on fire. I
The Way They Do It
Reader, it would prove interesting
as well as profitable for you to 1
carefully peruse the big advertisement
of that staunch old firm of j
Baura Bros., in our paper to day,
'1 hey advertise the most extensive
stock of general merchandise to be
found in the up country.
Bauni Bros., have been engaged in
business iu Camden fur upwards of I
thirty-eight years, and by their integrity,
pluck and energy, have built ^
lip a trade, both retad and wholesale, r
which might well excite the envy of |
a much larger city. They buy in
large quantities from first hands !or
cash, and can afford to give their
customers bargaius.
To read tl.eir advertisement, the j
tale is not half told. It would he J
necessary for you to visit their immense
establishment to understand j
and appreciate tbe magnitude of!
their tremendous business and the:
way they do it. They employ a!
corps of salesmen, whom they nev<rj
dismiss dmlng the summer month, j
for they do a steady, solid business j
nil the year round. Seeing is be-,
lieving. Don't take our word for it,
tut go and see for yourself.
A Destructive Conflagration.
On yesterday morning about halfpast
one o'clock the alarm of tire was !
Bounded, and Mr. S. 11. Latham's
stables, situated in the rear of the
Latham House, was found to be on
fire. The Stables were full of stock?
horses, mules and catt'e. The fire j
had made such headway that check-|
ing it wns out of the question, and j
every effort was directed towards'
saving the stock and preventing the j
spread of the flames. The fire spread
no rapidly and the heat was so intense,
it was impossible to gain access
to a number of the horses and
cuttle, but all that conM be reached
wire released and driven out. me;
number that perished win the flames i
are estimated at fourteen bead of j
horses, seven of whieh belonged to j
Col. Broaddus, of Sumter, five to Mr. j
Latham, one to Mr. T. K. E. Be-1
thune, of Lvnchwood, and one to .Mr. j
W.J. Rollings, of B sliopville. also ,
six head of cattle, including the fine
Rolstein bull belonging to Mr. J.
C. Man. The remainder of the cattle
belonged to Mr. Latham.
Mr. J.atlmm had a large amount of
corn, oats, hay. &c , valued at not ,
less than ?1,000. together with]
several valuable vehicles, all his bar.
ness, &c., all of which was consumed.
The stables belonging to Mr. M.
Tobias, near by, caught fire and was
consumed. Fortunately the wind
was perfectly calm at the time, and
through the heroic exertions of Ce
fire department and citizens the fircj
was prevented doing further damage. I
'J'l e amount of Col. Broaddns* loss
we have not been able to ascertain.
Mr. Latham's loss will probably not
fall short of $1,500 or $5,U00 We
understand he had insurance to the
amount of S2.O00 on the bui dinir.
which was comparatively new and i
contained all the modem improve-;
moots.
Mr. Latham and Col. Brouddus
have the sympathies of oar entire
community in their severe less.
'ol. Broaddus, we are soiry to say. is
quite ill. and has been tor some time.
Mr. Albert Able.in employee of ATr
Latham, wlio s opt iu the stable,
i-arne very near being1 consumed by
the flaues, baiely escaping iu h s
night clotiies.
The origin of the fire ia unknown,
but Mr. Latham thinks it was t ie
work of an incendiary.

to complain of this year's harvest.
Many of the farmers have paid up

of them still have a great deal of cotton
