EDMUNDS RIGHT FOR ONCE. Whatever may be our private personal or political feelings or opinions of an adversary, it is al\va}*R A right that to him we should accord justice when he deserves i', if indeed L we can throw from our eyes the ^ ? ,s /IJcliL-o and nreiudice wbicli rVviilCO V* \??o...w ? l m we naturally have and bear for such j an one. It is hard and difficult to h do, we admit, and it is more frequently left undone than done, and whatever may come to us from a source poisoned with our feelings is ' generally received with iudi(Terence, if not. of dislike. ' S n iter Kdmnn.ls, however, (the ] hitter, intolerable hater which be is and has been toward the South) rose l to the high dignity of his Senatorial position at the close of the past session of Congress, and soundly n. > buked and lashed with merciless invective the expiring Congress for their want and lack of dntv to the appropriation bills. The cold blooded Senator aroused the kind feelings of his bitterest political antagonists i when Le allowed how glaringly, outrageously and unnecessarily the time j of Congress had be<n wasted in frivolous matters when questions of , great import had been delayed and < put off until now they innst be rushe 1 ( through like an express train be ring , food to the suffering. f How wrong this was lie clear]y 1 and distinctly told, and bis speech, < though short, has hid its weighs. 1 and is a millstone for the next Demo- { cratic nominee to carry. Funeral | orations, pension bills and other r such miserable absorptions have ^ tlirt ii'.opu r?f linnpvt. lKrifllaJion ' IUIICI. H.v- ... _ -" O ^ and duty, and the J-onator uttered no word too harsh or too cutting when he ripped widely open the great injustice which these "wind bl wers'' and trumpeters had done to the people. Wc are sorry it is so, but it is t truth, and we commend him for it. t The civil service policy of President j Cleveland, his weak foreign policy, e and the idiocy of the Democratic t House of Representatives tell us ( clearly that unless something wonder- 1 ful takes place soon that already the * writing is upon the wall. Is there no sentinel to give the alarm and ^ wrest us from the clutches of those who so recently held us with iron ] grip? Sincerely do we hope so. r Mr. Edmunds is smut, and right. ^ too, upon this subject, and he struck ^ a silver chord which will find a re- n sponse in every heart. li t The war cloud in Europe seems to o have passed over 6ince the election * in Germany. Prince Bismarck stops ^ at nothing when he wishes to have I j his way. He is a great bulldozer, 2 and if it were necessary 1 e would " not scruple to plunge Europe into a I general war (since he has no fiirht,1 opto do himself) in order to carry out : his nolicv. ~ X~ SEW STATE LIBRARIAN. Mr. H. C. Hiebards n has been appointed tat>? Librarian in place, of Mr. Situs, recently decens'd. There we e a number ot applicants for tlie position, and among them was I one lady. W? don't think air/ of the applicants were more competent. , 1 to perform the ?lnties of the (.thee | than the lady was, and. all else be-! inp even, we would like to have seen 1 the lady there. , "\\e arc opposed to seeing the women ac mil ted into political questions a as voters, hut in clerical position*of honor and trust tiny ere equal. ^ (and often superior) to the average man who offers for soon positions. We want to see our women receive more consideration than they have ]r in the past. They are entitled to it,: cand the day will soon come when Iir they will be admitted to certain classcg j of public offices inst as freely as ?*' the men arc now?such as post offices, school trustees, clerks in the department?, etc. Give tlieni a showing. They deserve it. G An Indian of Owens Valley, Gal. hailed a passing doctor the o^b*r " day and asked him to look at his Rick -* child. The doctor ?w that Hie little j fellow was at death u door, and told his father that he cruid do nothing for him. hat the Indian insisted that it must have some "white man's me- ? die,"' and to satisfy the anxious father ^ the doator prepared a simple medicine. Next day the Indian called at the doator'8 office and said : "Pap- ' poose dead, maybe so your madia heap kill urn; you buy urn box make urn grave; you kill mn all same white man, put urn in ground ail same j white man.'' A novel case was tried at the last terra of the Franklin comity court Pen 11 . the decision in which fixes the legal stilus of a man's garden and his neighbor's chickens, and will jjther make the use of the shotgun note general in this State or the enclosures of the poultry j'ard more secure. Henry Klinjrensmith and Frank Wagoner arc m.-igSihors Klingeniiiul>i had it field o!" winter vHiewt and t\ agoner owned a flock of choice chickens.- Wagoner's chickens went nto Klingensnuth's wheat field and vorked ou the sprouting grain with he avidity of crows in a corn field. \lingen smith finally discovered them tnd went after them with a shotgnn, tilling most of the flock He then lized up the damage the poultry had lone, and sued Wn ?oner to recover. +e obtained a judgement for $30. iVagoner, believing that the loss of t lot of valuable chickens and the >aymeut of ?30 besides was an nnvarranted straining of justice, began , i criminal prosecution of Klingensmith under the statute fixing peimnies for killing and maiming domesic.animals. The .Judge charged the ury in the case that a man had no egal right to raise chickens that | lither annoyed his neighbors or fatened themselves in their gardens >r on their crops, and that the killng of them under such circumstances vas justifiable in law. Klingensmith vas acquitted.?Ex Ln End to Bone Scraping.
