disgusted at the impudence and intolerance

nevertheless believe that it has been all
for the best. It has shown him up iu

efforts of the prisoner to assume in?
sanity he has only knitted more closely

Divine inspiration. His restless, nervous

witnesses were being examined and

the face of the earth. His own lawyers
have seen and felt it, and have shown
a spirit of temper and anger towards
their great antagonists which told iiselt
that they were upon the losing side.
We are tru'y glad to sec that the
end is at hand. The counsel for the
Government have argued with great

It is only left now for the jury to discharge
their duty and send to his last

in all time to come as the blackest and

Better Late than Never.
A resolution has been introduced in
Congress, prohibiting hereafter the ad
mission of any delegate irorn Utah Territory
who favors polygamy, This is
just, right and proper. It has long
been a reflection on the civilization of
our Government to see in her halls of
legislation men who eitner were genuine
polygamists themselves, or who favored
it. It has been a sore spot upon
our country, and wo do sincerely trust
that the stroog hand of'our Government
will now crush aDd wipe it out. Monogamic
marriage is the only bond given
under heaven for the peace and happiness
of society, and anything that dis*
turbs or weakens that, becomes worse
than a plague. We welcome this firm
disposition upon the part of Congress
to give it its death blow.

The Cotton Factory Booiu.
The cotton factory boom seems to
have struck the South with redoubled
force lately. The quarterly aud annual
dividends recently declared by the
Southern factories (ranging from 15 to
25 per cent, net profit upon the investmeDt)opens
a field for the investment of
the surplus capital of the North that is
seldom offered, and from every side we
can hear of new mills being built, and
others to be started soon, all with thou
sanas oraouars co commence on, ana a
few companies even go up to a million
dollars in their investment, (a million
dollar company has recently been organized
in Augnsta, Ga.) and yet Kershaw
county, the most favored of any
spot in all the South?in the way of
health, location, cotton center and unlimited
water power?has not a single
spindle in operation, nor any prospect of
one soon being started. What is the
matter? Where is the fault? Our
prominent business men appear to be
Blaepifcg as calmly as if nothing were
wrong and allowiug our sister towns,
with uot one quarter of the advantages
we have, to go right ahead of us. ,
It is bigh time that they were aroused
from their slumbers and made to realize
that wc too should march on . with the
improvement of the age. It is a duty
they owe to themselves as well as to
their county. Proper representations
from reliable men will induce capitalist
to come and see for themselves what
facilities and advantages we have to offer,
and once they come and see, they
are certain to be pleased, Receive
them as they have been received in
other tnwns in our State?with a warm
welcome, and not as enemies who come
to take our property from us. Thev
come to develop our resources, to improve
our property and tnrich as while
fht-v add to their own wraith. We I
should begin to movo in this matter at
once, and move in a business like way,
and we will be benefitted.
